CHAPTER 22: DAY AT THE OFFICE
.
"Justin?"
Joey was awestruck when he realized that the individual standing so freely with his over all boss was none other than Justin.
"But how?" he wondered. "How in the world is- I mean, what is he doing here, and with Mr Newton Bishop?"
Joey cracked his head trying to fathom what the hell it was that Justin was doing in the company of such a man of affluence.
Suddenly, he got jealous and angry, even having not figured out why Justin was with Mr Bishop. He still felt Justin didn't deserve to be in the company of Mr Bishop. He felt that he deserved to be the one there.
"Please sir, let me relieve you of this obligation and take your guest around the department," Mr Cornell requested.
"As you wish," Mr Bishop gestured with his hands, that he carries on.
"Thank you sir," he appreciated, then turned to Justin.
"So, this is the accounts department. There is no dime spent in Cap Industries that we aren't aware of. And we pride ourselves as a department to be meticulous to a fault," Mr Cornell said, beginning his tour of the department.
Justin followed him, paying rapt attention to all that he explained, nodding and commenting where needed.
Mr Bishop followed behind, smiling as he watched his son display some level of maturity befitting of a true heir.
"What do you think about him?" Mr Bishop asked Gomez.
Gomez sighed softly. "I think he's okay, but he still has a lot to catch up on."
"Yeah, that's why he's here today. He needs to be brought up to speed," Mr Bishop responded.
"But I believe he'll do great, if given the opportunity," he added, and Gomez nodded.
"So, here are some of the workers, working diligently to maintain our standard," Mr Cornell pointed at some of the workers who stood up and greeted Mr Bishop.
Joey was up standing but bent his head down when Justin passed, hoping he'd not be recognized.
Justin walked past him taking a few steps ahead of him, and then he halted. He furrowed his brow, and turned around to have a second look at who he had walked past.
His eyes widened in surprise, seeing that it Joey. He almost called our Joey's name, but refrained from doing so. He then carried on with his tour.
Gomez noticed what happened and acted unconcerned by it. So did Mr Bishop.
They were done touring the department when they finally got to his office. Justin nodded in admiration.
"You guys seem to be doing quite a hell of work," Justin said smiling softly.
"Of course," Mr Cornell replied.
"Can I see the financial records, in the past two months?" Justin demanded.
"Uh..." Mr Cornell's voice trailed off as he turned, looking at Mr Bishop. Mr Bishop nodded, giving him the go ahead.
"Okay. Sir, please, have a seat," Mr Cornell offered Mr Bishop, but he actually meant that they all had their seat.
He hurriedly brought out two files, and handed them to Justin.
"We also have these in our system, if you'd like to cross-check their rather."
"No, this is okay," Justin appreciated. He went on to flip through the paperwork, analyzing the data he saw, cross referencing them.
Joey totally lost focus on what he was doing previously. His mind was troubled. He kept trying to figure out what Justin was doing there.
"He must be here on internship. Yeah, he's here on internship," Joey said. "He just got fortunate to be treated exceptionally by Mr Bishop. There's no doubt that he has a likeable face. That's definitely the reason he's been treated so. Yeah, that's definitely the reason."
Joey stretched his neck from his workspace to see what was going on, but the door was shut, with the guards standing right outside the office.
Justin was done analyzing all the documents given him. Had them arranged back into their files and handed them back to Mr Cornell.
"Is that all?" Mr Cornell asked.
"Yeah. That's all," Justin replied. "Shall we proceed?"
"Sure," Mr Bishop answered standing up, as they all exited the office of the department head.
They all walked past the workers, including Joey, but Justin didn't spare him a second glance, and Joey was frightened to look as Mr Bishop was with them.
They exited the department, and headed straight to the executive floor, which was the twentieth floor of the twent two floor tower.
The moment the elevator dinged open, Justin's eyes widened in awe, but he quickly comported himself. But he was very impressed at the attention to detail the architects and interior decorators paid.
"Welcome to the executive floor," Mr Bishop said smiling as he walked on ahead, and Justin turned round, looking in subtle admiration.
He walked and caught up with Mr Bishop. Getting close to his office, a beautiful young lady approached them smiling. It was Mr Bishop's secretary.
"Welcome sir," she said, bowing slightly.
"Agnes, how are you today?" Mr Bishop asked, as he unlocked the door to his office with his finger print.
"I am splendid sir," she replied. "Gomez."
"Agnes," Gomez nodded once, in deep voice.
"Hello," she waved at Justin. He waved back at her saying nothing. It made her wonder who he was.
"Come on in," Mr Bishop ushered Justin in.
As Justin walked into the office, his mouth was gaped. He was short of words at the sheer beauty of the office. He sighed, speechless.
Agnes walked into the office holding a file. "Sir, here's your itinerary for the day."
"Okay," Mr Bishop said as he went through them.
"It's alright then. Thank you," he appreciated Agnes.
She nodded and walked out the office. As she went out, she briefly glanced at Justin, still wondering who he was.
"So, what do you think about this place? You seemed really impressed."
"I've always been impressed with this place for years now, but being here, up close, it's a whole new experience," Justin replied Mr Bishop.
"Am glad that that has been the case," Mr Bishop remarked. Trevor cracked up a smile in response.
"Um, everything seems to be running smoothly, but, there's something I did observe with the financial records though," Justin said, calling Mr Bishop's attention.
"What is it?"
"There are certain discrepancies I noticed. It's either the head of department is involved, hence he's, or he's got someone else doing the dirty work and he turns a blind eye, or he's so darn incompetent at his job not to notice."
"So that means someone there is stealing from me, betraying me huh?" Mr Bishop's face turned cold, as he pondered.
