NEW BOUNDARIES.

CHAPTER 23: NEW BOUNDARIES.

"Seeing how invested you are in the welfare and smooth running of Cap Industries, well, not just Cap Industries alone, ever considered taking up the leadership of the company?" Mr Bishop asked.

"I'm sorry, you mean leadership, and not just working for you?" Justin raised his eyebrows as he tilted his head, wondering.

"Yeah. I mean, you'll still be working for me, but at an executive level," Mr Bishop clarified.

"Phew! I- I don't know what to say," Justin responded, not expecting that at all.

"You were perceptive and observant enough to spot the flaws within the two businesses, things I had missed," Mr Bishop continued.

"Your judgement will be impeccable, since you're not sentimental about the assessment of the credibility of my workers. And that's why I am very certain you'd make a great CEO."

Justin's eyes widened in surprise. "You want me to be the CEO?"

"Of course, who else would I rather entrust my affairs to, if not my competent son?"

Mr Bishop noticed Justin's unrest from his facial expressions.

"I'm sure you're wondering if you qualify for this or not. But trust me, you're more than qualified," he said, trying to cheer Justin up.

"I don't know what to say," Justin said, running his fingers through his hair.

"Just take your time and think about it, and get back to me when you've made up your mind, okay?" Mr Bishop said.

"Sure, I will," Justin said, soberly, as he thought.

__________

Detective Savannah and Riley had resumed work early that morning. They both went through files and reports of the two mafia gangs that they were currently investigating.

Detective Savannah had her suspicions about certain men in society. But was all they were, suspicions. Nothing concrete. But one of the men she had had her eyes on was Newton Bishop.

Going through the papers and not finding anything useful to help push the case forward, she flung the papers on her desk.

"Ugh!" she grunted frustratedly. "How can there be nothing tangible for nearly half a decade on any of them?"

"Beats me," Riley replied, feeling frustrated also. He leaned into his chair and sighed.

A colleague of their's who had been in the force longer than them walked past them, wearing his gun strap on his shirt. He smirked seeing their frustrated looks.

"It seems like you've both hit an investigation block, haven't you? I told you not to take on this case Savannah. But you're so stubborn as a mule," he laughed mockingly.

Detective Savannah glared at him, but held her peace.

"Hey Cole, no need to rub it on us that we're having a hard time, for now. We'll surely have a break in the case," Riley said defensively.

"I'll love to see that day," he replied, laughing, as he went ahead to use the photocopying machine.

Detective Savannah swayed in her chair, thinking. Then, she spontaneously sprung up from her chair and advanced towards that colleague of their's.

"Hey, you've been around for quite some time in the force, and tackled this very case. So, what do you know about the man called the informant?"

Detective Cole furrowed his brow at her.

"Why do you want to know about him?" he asked.

"Well, do you know him or not?" Detective Savannah pressed.

"Yeah, I don't know him on a personal basis. I only know about him," Cole replied.

"The closest I ever got to meet him was when he sent me a note saying I had better stopped asking certain questions, unless, I'm ready to have people close to me pay for it."

Detective Savannah was stunned at what he revealed.

"Am sure you know what I did," he said taking out the photocopy he made. "You want my candid advice? Drop this case. You don't know the forces you're dealing with."

"Oh, you'd be surprised at how much I know," Detective Savannah responded.

Cole shook his head disappointedly. "Like I said, as stubborn as a mule."

He began walking back to his desk when Detective Savannah yelled out, "If I wanna find him, where do I start?"

"China Town."

Detective Savannah sat down on her seat as she reasoned.

"Don't tell me you're still considering pressing on with this case, after hearing all that?" Riley said, feeling scared already.

"Hell yeah. I'm even more curious to find out now more than ever," she replied, as her eyes lit up in hope.

"Uh, Jesus, Savannah. I think you better heed Cole's advice," Riley solicited.

"Well, am driving," she responded, grabbing her suit and began heading out.

Riley sat back watching her as she walked away from their desk. She smirked, expecting him to get up and join her.

"Ugh, fuck me," he said, standing up. "Hey, wait up."

Detective smiled, seeing that her expectation didn't fall short.

They both got to their car and drove off heading to china Town.

____________

Mr Bishop left Justin in his office as he attended to one of his daily schedules, which was having a board meeting.

The board room was situated at the floor above the executive floor, for easy accessibility to the board members who chose to commute via helicopters to the roof top helipad.

Justin took his time to explore the office. As he got to the CEO's seat. He pictured himself on the seat, sitting behind the desk.

The thought made him smile, shaking his head. He recalled how that he was mistreated by his so called family, and the girl he loved and sacrificed for in college.

"Irony certainly is a bitch," he remarked, chuckling softly.

He then attempted to sit on his father's chair, when he heard a buzzing sound coming from the side of the custom made mahogany table.

It startled him, causing him to quickly move away from the chair. He looked at the where the buzzing sound came from and saw a switch.

He was smart enough to notice that someone requested entry, so he went ahead to flip the switch, opening the door.

Immediately, Agnes walked in, cat walking. She looked directly at Justin's face, and Justin looked back at her, refusing to be intimidated by her.

"Excuse me, but can I get you anything, at all?" she asked, wearing a beautiful smile.

__________

Detective Savannah and Riley arrived China Town. She found a place to park their car.

"So, where do we start from?" she asked.

"I have no idea," Riley sighed.
