Rosemary's pov:
Now what? Do I have to worry about him tearing us apart too?
Glued to my leg, Avery steps back with me as I do. It takes Nathanael a few seconds to register my words. When he finally does, he shuts his eyes, bringing a hand up to cover his face.
"I am sorry… I didn't realize," he blurts out, facing downwards.
"I figured…," I mumble.
Although, despite his reaction, I remain on my guard, maintaining the distance between us. Not that it would matter much if he truly lost his mind on us.
It's Nathanael's turn to take a few steps back as he still has his hand on his forehead, hovering over his eyes, "Are you two alright?" he asks, clearing his throat here and there throughout the question.
"For now, yeah," I finally allow the hand I'd kept up all this time to fall, "What the hell happened to you?"
"It's alright. Really nothing worth mentioning," his eyes land on Avery and stay on him.
