Fierce rejection

Julian brought Esme to a café, where they used to come in the past whenever Esme visited him. His heart swelled with emotions as he glanced around the familiar surroundings. However, Esme seemed unaffected. She sat quietly with a glum face.

The coffee he had ordered was served. Julian, his smile strained, placed a steaming latte in front of Esme. "I know you love lattes. You always order this whenever we come here. I also remember how you used to drag me to Tony's back home for a cup of latte?"

Across the table, Esme's features hardened. The latte, once she used to love, did nothing to soothe the storm brewing within her. Memories, sharp and painful, flooded back, a stark reminder of her past mistakes.

The cup of latte only reminded her of how foolish she had been. She was not interested in casual conversation with him.

"Get to the point, Julian," she snapped. "What do you want?"
