You can't escape me.

"Accident?" Esme exclaimed, shocked. "Is he okay?" She forgot her conflicts with Julian at that moment. All she could feel was concern for the man she had known for years.

"Luckily, he wasn't badly injured—just a concussion on his head," Daphne explained. "He's in the hospital. If you can come here, it would be helpful."

"Oh, um… yes, of course, Daphne," Esme stuttered, her thoughts racing. "I'll be there shortly."

Beep…

Esme leaped into action, her movements quick and purposeful as she rushed toward her bedroom.

Adelynn watched in bewilderment. "What happened?" she finally asked, confusion clouding her voice. "Who's in an accident?"

Esme skidded to a halt, her back to Adelynn for a moment before she turned. "Julian," she blurted with a mixture of shock and concern. "He's in the hospital."

"Julian? How?" Adelynn echoed, brows furrowed.

"I don't know." Esme shook her head, sighing dejectedly. "I have to go see him."
