Guilt and remorse

Esme was a whirlwind of restless energy on the bed. She tossed and turned countless times, her eyes drawn again and again to the silent phone on the nightstand. She had been expecting calls or messages from Silas, but there was nothing. Didn't he ask her to go back to the villa?

Although she had ignored his command, she still expected him to show up to take her back. She wanted him to beg her, apologize to her, and ensure her that he would never upset her. Unexpectedly, he ignored her.

Ignoring him – that was supposed to be her power play. He was the one who had hurt her in the first place. Why couldn't he just apologize to her and explain himself?

"You fool! Can't you call me?" she fumed, a pout twisting her lips. "Do you have to be so arrogant?"

Frustration morphed into a desperate longing. Every fiber of her being yearned to hear his voice. At this moment, a thought emerged in her mind. 'Is he angry with me for not obeying him?'
