"Yes," he admitted.
"Oh my god. And who do you suspect?"
"I think it was my brother."
Chloé touched her forehead with her hand and felt the coldness of the ring against her face. She shuddered.
"A-Are you saying you're totally fine with this?" Chloé asked. Kemal looked straight into her eyes.
"I'm not okay with it, but what can I do? It is my family. I'm used to it."
"And you want to bring me into this family? What will they think about the human you want to marry? That I'm lunch?"
"Look, şekerim. I am only here for a few nights, and you will be studying for at least two of them. I'll tell you things in stages, yes? I don't want to spend all our time talking about my family."
"But, Kemal, this isn't something I can just feel casual about." She wrapped her fingers in her hair in despair.
He sat forward. Taking her hand in his, he asked, "Do you trust me?" She lifted her head and nodded. "With your life?"
"I–I think so."
