Chapter 4

The black car was driving on the roads of the Vallenville city. A gigantic city with the world's biggest academy. The bastion of humanity against Dawrians.

Looking through the window, the young man could see a giant ship upside down, half of it buried in the ground—a Dawrian ship.

'That's one gigantic ship that's for sure.' He thought. He still couldn't believe the day the Vallenville city was attacked by the Dawrians.

It wasn't the first time they attacked Earth, but it was the first biggest invasion of the Dawrians. Even bigger than their first one which changed the geography of Earth fifty years ago.

The whole structure changed after their first attack. Cities slowly fell under their attack while humans desperately defended with their weapons that did awfully little against the Dawrians. An example of that would be Vallenville city which was old London.

Not until some great minds of the world got together to examine a Dawrian ship and their prisoners to learn the power of the supernatural.

Humanity called them arcane abilities. At first, only some could wield it by extracting it from Dawranians.

Later on, after some victories with these superhumans, they discovered another way. The way of the Dawrians.

The young man didn't exactly know what that method was as it was known as mystical. What he did know was that after humanity managed to defend against the Dawrians and the risk of another invasion dwindled a lot, humans showed their true colors.

There was only one way to gain an arcane ability at first, at the temple of arcane universe. It was named so by the Dawrians so humans chose to call it the same.

But when there was no external danger, people started monopolizing the source. The temple was divided into three wings.

The first wing gave weak arcane abilities, for those who were destined to stay at the bottom.

The second wing was for those who could afford it, not that everyone could even afford the first wing, but the second wing was for the truly rich. But even then, it didn't mean that you were guaranteed to get a strong ability there. There were some abilities that were strong in grade but useless in combat such as levitation or psychomancy. Strong abilities but also very stamina consuming. There were many others that people did not want like these two.

The third wing was only for those who were strong. Not anyone could gain access to the third wing. The first superhumans. Worldwide there were only fifteen families who had such an honor.

Only they and their successors could access the third wing to gain strong abilities. Of course, it was not limited to direct successors. If someone could prove their worth to the families and show great talent and of course undying loyalty, you could be granted access and allowed to upgrade your ability.

The abilities were mostly the same. Only the first wing's fire ability and the third wing's fire ability were miles apart. where the strongest skill of the first wing's fire ability was a fireball, and the third wing's fire ability's strongest skill was a meteor shower.

One could upgrade their arcane ability by going to the second wing and then the third wing. Of course, there were some who upgraded their abilities without going through an upgrade ceremony.

Of course, those kinds of people were so rare that they could be counted on one's fingers. Those that were known at least. One of those prominent figures was the principal of the Arcane Academy. The strongest military academy.

There was one problem with all of the ability-gaining process though. Not everyone could have an ability. Some were not even granted any ability even if they could somehow gain access to the temple.

One such kind of people was the young man sitting in the back seat of the black car. A unique case.

'Friging abilities. It's not like I need one in the first place.' He really didn't. Since birth, the young man was different from everyone else. Even without an ability he could run miles without tiring out. He could lift weights that people without physical ability would find difficult to lift.

He was superior in every kind of physical aspect and not only that, but he was also smarter than any other child his own age. His memory was superior. He could understand anything in a matter of moments, something that even an adult would find hard to do.

In other words, he was superior in every case but when he went through the ability-gaining ritual at the temple three years ago at the age of fifteen, he failed to attain one.

It really was a unique case as those who couldn't attain an ability had no reaction at the temple, but when the ritual of the young man was initiated, the reaction from the temple was the brightest in the history yet when the boy came out of the temple, he had no ability.

He went through many tests, but the result was always the same. Many thought that the boy's physical aspects were his ability if the tests hadn't determined otherwise.

In the end, it was a disappointment. Even if the boy had superior physical traits, they were useless in a battle of abilities. A shame for the family. That was the name he was awarded.

However, the boy never thought so. He had no problem with that. He could feel himself getting stronger every day even without an ability. He truly didn't need any.

That was not the cause for the boy to leave his family. It was something else but alas he had to return. Even his uncle couldn't protect him from joining the academy. It was mandatory with or without an ability. For him at least.

He had no problem with joining the academy. It's not like this was the sole academy on the planet Earth, but it was the strongest. The only problem with joining this academy was that this one was situated in the one place on earth he wanted to run far away from.

During his train of thought, the car had left the city and traveled a few miles away from the city towards a mansion that belonged to the Derek family. The young man's family.
