Ch 47: An offer I have to refuse [pt2]

The younger omega looked at Meria with a hope-filled expression, and it made Meria uncomfortable to be the one to say 'no' to him.

'I don't want to break this kid's heart, but I must prioritise my emperor before anyone else.'

The silence seemed enough for Alfred to guess what Meria was thinking.

That smile slowly melted away from his face, causing disappointment to take its place along with sadness.

"I see. So, you do not like me enough to want me either. You just said your previous words to make me feel better, right? No one likes an omega like me-"

Meria grabbed the omega's face and turned it to face his own.

"That's not true! Alfred, you are a good person, but I have already spoken to you. I am a royal guard and a general as well. I have duties that I need to attend to. I cannot abandon my post, so don't feel bad."
