Chapter 10: Satirically Mocking Him for His Incompetence_1

Pei Jingchuan noticed Jiang Yuzhu's expression and spoke softly.

The man's voice was clear and carried a hint of coldness that was oddly comforting to hear.

Pulled out of her thoughts, Jiang Yuzhu smiled and shook her head.

Truth be told, she doesn't much care for children.

She had no plans of having children herself.

"Let's head home."

After a stroll, Jiang Yuzhu rubbed her neck and suggested softly.

Pei Jingchuan nodded, and the two of them, along with the little cat, started walking back into the residential area.

Perhaps the little cat was tired from the walk and laid flat on the ground.

Jiang Yuzhu was surprised, such a situation had never arisen before.

"Xiaobai, get up, we're going home."

The kitten rolled on the ground a couple of times then sauntered over to Pei Jingchuan, juxtaposing itself against his leg in a charming fashion.

Jiang Yuzhu teasingly looked at Pei Jingchuan, "Xiaobai seems to want you to carry him."

Pei Jingchuan slightly frowned, then bent down and cooped Xiaobai with its neck and picked him up into his arms.

"Strange, Xiaobai seems more attached to you, despite you only being here for a few days," Jiang Yuzhu said, a hint of bewilderment in her voice, walking beside Pei Jingchuan.

It seems in this world, as long as you're attractive, even cats would like you.

After returning home, they both freshened up and went to sleep.

The next day was typically routine.

After dealing with some urgent documents, Pei Jingchuan left work early and not long after arriving home, there was a knock on the door.

He raised his eyebrow, perplexed.

Could it be that Jiang Yuzhu forgot her keys today?

In the living room, Xiaobai, previously content in his little nest, jumped out and started to follow him around.

"So early off work today?"

Pei Jingchuan opened the door. However, the sight of the person standing at the doorway left him helpless and slightly annoyed.

"Grandmother, why didn't you call to tell me you were coming?"

As she walked in, Lady Pei retorted, "What? Do I need your permission to visit my granddaughter-in-law? What business is it of yours?"

Pei Jingchuan: "..."

Essentially, his grandmother was belittling him.

"That's not what I meant."

Pei Jingchuan replied tersely, but his tone was less cold than usual, betraying a trace of respect.

"Well, are you making dinner?" Lady Pei asked Jingchuan with a raised eyebrow as she replaced her shoes and made her way towards the sofa.

Pei Jingchuan voiced his affirmation with a gentle hum.

"That's not bad, being considerate of your wife. Xiaozhu hasn't finished work yet?"

Pei Jingchuan headed into the kitchen, "She is usually busy at work, often finishes late."

Upon hearing that, Lady Pei sighed wistfully, a trace of concern in her voice, "Poor Xiaozhu, she's such a sensible girl."

So sensible that it breaks one's heart.

By the time Jiang Yuzhu returned from work, it was already nearing 10 p.m. She walked in wearily, and as soon as the door opened, Xiaobai was there to greet her, followed by the voice of Lady Pei.

"My sweet granddaughter-in-law, you finally finished work, did you have a hard day?"

Seeing Jiang Yuzhu, Lady Pei instantly brightened up, she waved her hand indicating for Jiang Yuzhu to come to her.

"Xiaozhu, come here, I haven't seen you in ages!"

"I'm not tired. Why didn't you tell us you were coming? Jingchuan and I could have prepared something." Jiang Yuzhu said with a smile, walking over to Lady Pei.

"I just wanted to see you." Lady Pei responded, holding Jiang Yuzhu's hand with a beaming smile.

Jiang Yuzhu sat talking with Lady Pei for a while. Remembering Pei Jingchuan was still in the kitchen, she stood up to help but was stopped by Lady Pei.

"Xiaozhu, just sit here and chat with me. Jingchuan can handle the cooking; he's good at it." Lady Pei said, her tone friendly, "Besides, those hands of yours are so delicate, you can't be doing housework. It might make them rough."

Taken aback, Jiang Yuzhu lightly chuckled, nodding her head, "Alright."

Pei Jingchuan had already pre-prepped the vegetables for stir-frying while Jiang Yuzhu was still at the hospital. When she returned, he only had to cook them quickly. Soon, a table full of scrumptious dinner was ready.

Jiang Yuzhu helped Lady Pei to the dinner table and then went to help Pei Jingchuan carry the dishes.

"You keep talking with grandmother; I'll take care of this." Pei Jingchuan's voice was as cool as ever, but his words were filled with tenderness.

A subconscious blush crept up Jiang Yuzhu's ears as she quietly said, "Don't worry."

After dinner, Jiang Yuzhu stood up to clean the dishes.

Seeing Pei Jingchuan sitting motionlessly, Lady Pei gave his leg a little kick.

Pei Jingchuan wrinkled his brow, but didn't lose his temper. He stood up, walked towards the kitchen with the dishes and asked Jiang Yuzhu, "You go and rest, leave the cleaning to me."

Conventionally, he cooked, and she cleaned, so it had slipped his mind for a moment.

Jiang Yuzhu just laughed and shook her head, "You should spend some time with grandma; I'll handle the cleaning."

But Pei Jingchuan had already put on an apron. Rolling up his sleeves to reveal his tan but strong arms, he stood by the sink.

"Grandmother would prefer your company. You go and chat with her, leave the cleaning to me. It's an unspoken tradition in our house that women don't enter the kitchen. If you don't go, grandmother will nag me for making you work."

After hearing his words, Jiang Yuzhu chuckled lightly.

No wonder Pei Jingchuan, despite coming from a well-off family, was comfortable both in the boardroom and the kitchen; he had been brought up that way.

Jiang Yuzhu being a straightforward person just said, "I'll leave then."

"Really, Xiaozhu. Jingchuan is a thoughtless young man, having never been social with girls before, so if he upsets you, you must tell him directly, he will correct his behavior."

As Lady Pei gently held Jiang Yuzhu's hand, she advised her softly.

The grandmother couldn't help but adore her granddaughter-in-law.

Thinking about their time together these past few days, Jiang Yuzhu involuntarily smirked.

"Grandma, Jingchuan has been very nice."

"That's good to hear. If that boy dares to bully you, just tell me; I'll straighten him out!" Lady Pei enthusiastically responded, acting like a mischievous child.

Jiang Yuzhu held back a laugh but didn't reply.

About this time, Pei Jingchuan, who had been cleaning the kitchen, came out, "Grandmother, could you please talk about something appropriate?"

Always talking about irrelevant matters.

Upon hearing this, Lady Pei glared at Pei Jingchuan and haughtily retorted, "Whatever I discuss with my granddaughter-in-law is none of your business!"

Pei Jingchuan: "..."

Anyone unaware of their relationship would think Jiang Yuzhu was her biological granddaughter.

While Lady Pei and Jiang Yuzhu were deep in conversation, Pei Jingchuan was sitting on the other side of the sofa, typing away on his keyboard with furrowed brows.

After finishing his work, he noticed that his grandmother showed no signs of leaving.

He indifferently voiced, "Grandmother, I'll drive you home."

On hearing this, Lady Pei immediately became disgruntled, "I'm not going home, I'm staying here tonight."

Pei Jingchuan frowned, "There's not enough room."

Lady Pei uninteracted with Pei Jingchuan, she gave Jiang Yuzhu a pitiful look instead.
