The main character is focused on becoming strong, but he has family and friends that he wants to protect as well.
The main character has a dark past and has to grapple with it throughout the story. The mana and Magic of the world has a lot to do with emotions.

Surviving An Apocalypse

As I pushed off the wall of the Olympic sized pool, I did not use any Mana because we had agreed not to. Even so, my physical stats were so high that I practically flew through the water at such a crazy speed that the water my fingers slammed down against began to boil.

The water churned and turned white around me, barely letting me see the wall that was fast approaching. Right as I was about to smash up against the wall, I brought my hands up flat to spin around in the water. As I was upside down in my flip, my feet slammed down against the wall, I pushed off. I had done a Flip turn.

I sped through the water crazy fast again. As my right hand smashed into the far side of the wall, I turned around, and I saw that Achilles had been right behind me. I had won, but just by the skin of my teeth.

Achilles turned to me with a grin stretched across his face. "That was a good race Travis. What was that flip you did at the wall?"
