Budding Friendships

May finishes her plate of food. She hops off of my lap, looking to run around the house to burn off all that brand new energy. "Done~!"

I ruffle her hair and give a little smile. "The maid's daughter should be up if you want to go play with her."

"Okay~"

May hops in place before running off with the other children, the prospect of finding her friend clearly providing her with quite a lot of incentive.

I...

I'm just glad that the children of the maids and other servants in this manor have no knowledge of those other children from Celend. May doesn't need to worry about being ostracized and bullied here.

She can finally play with kids her age and feel like she belongs.

For that, I can't help but smile.

I turn my attention back to the table, focusing on the conversation at hand. "But what I don't understand is...what does any of this have to do with me? Or...any of us?"
