About fifteen minutes had passed since the testing process had began and everyone had passed so far.
This served to calm the people's nerves as they felt like they would be safe too.
"I knew it, there are no Heretics here." Some of the people started whispering in the line.
"Of course they won't be here. If they were heretics won't they have already run away? After all they're supposed to be allied to demons right? They would have survived all this." Another person replied.
"Yeah, this will all just be a waste of time, I tell you." They continued to chat.
"Silence!" But the knights heard their chattered and shouted at them to become silent.
The immortals were still watching and they couldn't let the people disturb them. Though the knights didn't know that the immortals seem to be talking about the same topic.
"What do you think about the people here, Han Mu?" Immortal Yan suddenly asked.
"The people?" The female immortal seemed to be a bit surprised be the question. "Hmm… They are pitiful." She said after thinking for a second.
"Pitiful… I suppose that word fits." Immortal Yan replied, narrowing his eyes.
"Hah, pitiful only suits those that deserve it not trash like these." Immortal Wu Lei replied. "Didn't you hear, all these people are exiles or those that are unwanted everywhere. There is a reason why they are like that… Who knows what kind of heinous crimes they've done." He scoffed.
"That isn't right." But Immortal Han Mu denied that. "Not everyone will be like that. Can't you see the younger humans and the children? They don't have a fault of their own in being here. I was listening and heard that there are many that were born here in the first place and have never been anywhere else." She justified her point.
"That doesn't matter. Like begets like… Trash will only spread more trash…" Immortal Wu Lei replied. "Though perhaps these maybe worse… Parasites even." He added as a scowl appeared on his face.
"That's not—" But before Immortal Han Mu could respond, something caught their attention.
~CLANG~
"No… NO! NO! NOOO! THIS CAN'T BE TRUE!" A man shouted, as he gazed at the yellow fog inside the glass orb.
"Hold him!" Mage Clor ordered. "Seems like we got our first heretic." He glared at the panicked man in front of him.
"You're lying! This is wrong!" The man didn't seem inclined to agree this and looked at the knights that were approaching. "AHH!" the fear within had reached a breaking point and he suddenly started running.
"Get him!" Mage Clor ordered.
"STOP!" The knights ran after him.
~ZAP~
But before the knights could get further than a couple of steps, a bright flash was scene.
~THUD~
Then in the next moment, the man who had just tried to run collapsed.
"See… Like I told you, parasites." Immortal Wu Lei said, lowering his finger. "They're mere bugs that should be eliminated the moment they start causing trouble." He added.
Mage Clor and the Knights couldn't help but look at the immortals, feeling a bit fearful too. The speed at which the man had been killed was simply unbelievable and they didn't know if they would be able to outrun that either.
"Thank you Lord Immortal." Mage Clor hurriedly said. "Pardon us for this mistake." He apologized.
"It would do you well to give them no chance." Immortal Wu Lei replied before looking away.
"O-of course!" The Mage replied, feeling relieved that the immortal didn't seem to be offended.
He also looked at the two other immortals and they seemed to not mind it either. Though the female Immortal had a pensive look on her face. It was unknown what was going through her mind, but the Mage knew it was in their best interest to finish all of this quickly.
"Throw that corpse away and bring the next person." Mage Clor ordered, restarting the process.
And while this happened, the people of the Crude lands were left shaken. They watched it all with a terrified expression, as all the confidence they had built up earlier melted away like it was ice in an oven.
"They… Killed him…" Someone muttered.
"He had no chance… He died instantly." They swallowed their saliva, trying to hold their fear back.
But it was a difficult thing as their hearts threatened to jump out of their throats at the site of it all. Even if they had been through a terrifying situation already with the demon invasion, their current state seemed to be no less stressful.
The blade hanging over their heads had only been covered for a moment, it had never been removed.
Asher and Tess who had been observing this were scared too, and the boy even forgot the pain in his chest for a minute due to all this.
"We'll be fine… Don't worry." Tess replied squeezing Asher's shoulders.
"Y-yes…" Asher hoped that too.
He then watched as the corpse of the man was thrown into the same place where the two heretics were kneeling. They had not been moved to the steel carriage yet for some reason and were made to watch the whole ordeal.
The cowardly heretic was still trembling upon watching it all, and he too forgot the pain from his hand seeing the instant death.
'Perhaps it isn't that bad to be chained.' He thought to himself.
On the other hand, the frenzied heretic had a deep frown on his face.
~ptui~
He spat in anger and muttered something under his breath, unseen to all. Though his gaze never left the Mages and Immortals that were sitting there in comfort.
His eyes scanned the people from time to time, as he watched those that were brought to be checked.
And when an hour had gone by, half of the people had been processed. Among them majority were safe with only two more Second Generation heretics being found. This was a number that had left the people of the Crude Lands quite shaken as their anxiety rose steadily.
