When Dominik is gone, the loss of security that he offers with his presence alone is evident. Why is that the case? Why does he provide such a profound sense of protection?

Now I am left to stare at the four walls and take inventory of everything provided here. This room feels less like a bedroom in a home and more like a hotel room. Whereas the room in the man castle seemed silent and lonely, there was the majestic view out the window. There was the sense of being in the mountain itself with all the large boulders and wood beams.

In Matvey's house, that connection to nature is strikingly absent. I didn't realize at the time how much I appreciated the stone and wood of the previous surroundings. The man castle was grand in scale, but now I realize it was reaching for something—something simpler than this. It wasn't Dominik's cabin in the woods, but the spirit was similar at least.
