A hopeless situation

"Who's that?" Lance asked with furrowed brows. He had seen the man the previous day but Adele refused to talk about him.

And he also called her 'little blue'. Was that the nickname he gave her? Those were the thoughts that ran through his mind.

"Hope you thought about my offer?" He began to walk toward her. She still had the blue scarf wrapped around her neck.

"I didn't. Now, back off! Haven't I told you not to come close to me?" She folded her hands while staring inquisitively at him.

"Give it a thought, little blue darling. I know how badly you want your wish and as I said, I will grant it unto you."

"Thanks, but no thanks. I'm fine. I don't need your help." She dipped her hand into the bag Lance was carrying and brought out his scarf. He stretched it to him but he didn't take it. He only stared confused at it.

"You did something nice to me and that's why I'm still talking to you. Now, take it and stay away from my life for good."

"Don't worry about that. I've got millions of them. You can trash it."

She gritted her teeth. To think she even went through the stress of washing it. She threw the scarf to the ground, took Lance's hand roughly, and began to walk away. His presence made her blood boil for no particular reason. Lance had lots of questions but decided to keep them to himself. He would find out on his own eventually.

"Her resistance makes this battle a more interesting one." Mr. Hale said to himself and got into his car.

He was determined to get her to accept his request in any way possible.

Adele knew Lance wouldn't let this slide. So when they got back to Gina's house, he went straight to questioning her.

"Who is that man, Adele? You are going to answer me this instant and you're going to tell me the entire truth."

"Stop it, Lance. It's my life and I don't want to talk about him. As I said, he is no one to me. Just some pest who keeps pestering my life." She replied harshly.

"I don't want to talk about him, okay? Please." She said with a low voice as she laid down. Lance clenched his fists and sneered. He could tell that she was saying the truth. He wished he could just get rid of him.

"What do you want to eat?" He asked.

"Nothing yet. I'm not hungry."

He sat down beside her.

"If you need someone to talk to, I'll be here for you. And don't feel bad. I'll raise the money for your surgery somehow and you never have to think of leaving this world." He cooed. Adele didn't say a word to him. He knew she didn't want to talk so he just left quietly.

'I'm sorry, Lance, Gina. I have to be distant from you so you won't miss me so much.' Her tears finally fell. She wanted to stay and spend more time with them. She thought it was alright for her to just leave but the thought of not seeing them again broke her heart over and over again.

"I don't want to go just yet." She sobbed quietly and bitterly cried herself to sleep.

She woke up around evening time to the smell of cake. It was her favorite food in the world. She stretched to her satisfaction before walking out of the room. She met Gina and Lance arguing about something but she didn't want to intrude. She went back to her room and picked up her phone.

She needed to apply for another job. Even if she was going to die, she still needed to live.

As she was browsing the vacant spots around the city, a message came in. It was from a strange number.

"I'll be waiting for your reply. I give you three days." The message read. She rolled her eyes and deleted it.

"Someone needs to put that man in his place." She scoffed. Her weakness was becoming more frequent and she had lost the ability to eat food. Even her drugs weren't working anymore. She needed immediate surgery but where was she supposed to get the money from? She couldn't let Lance do anything for her. If she eventually survived, she would feel indebted to him for the rest of her life. And definitely, she couldn't accept Mr. Hale's offer. Not even in her wildest dreams.

"What do I do?" She bit her fingertips.

Lance knocked on her door before opening it. He had a tray in his hand which he dropped on the table beside Adele.

"Dinner is served." He said happily.

"Thank you, Lance. I appreciate all you do for me." She smiled warmly.

"It's fine. What are friends for? I love you and I want the best for you." He rubbed her shoulder and then her hair. He loved her scent and wished he could cuddle her. But he was sure she would be upset if he ever mentioned that to her.

"Just eat and eat lots of food." He grinned. If only he knew that she couldn't eat anything without feeling irritated.

"Thank you." She dropped her phone and began to eat. At least, she needed to pretend to put his mind at ease.

"Did you make this?" She inquired. "It's tasty." She moaned.

"Really? Gina really has no sense of taste." He rolled his eyes and walked out, probably to taunt Gina for her misjudgment.

'I'm the one with no sense of taste.' She laughed darkly.

After eating, she went for a walk with her phone and headset. She listened to some soul soothing songs as she walked along the body street. The wind blew her hair which made it dance in all directions. Her eyes lit up under the night sky and her soul was lifted. She felt at ease like nothing else could go wrong in her life.

She found herself a seat because she was tired of walking. Immediately her butt landed on the wooden seat, her phone rang. It was the nurse in charge of taking care of her grandmother.

"Hello, nurse Amber." She greeted her.

"Hello, Adele. How are you?"

"I'm good." She replied.

"Sadly, I have bad news. Your granny passed out and was rushed to the hospital."

Adele stood up abruptly.

"Is she okay? Hold up, I'm coming over right away."

"No, it's late already. I just called to tell you that she doesn't have much time. The doctors said she can live for as long as three months now."

"Okay." She simply replied and hung up. She sat back with a sad expression.

Three months was enough because she would still be alive to bury her. Her grandmother had lived for over a hundred years and it was enough. She remembered telling her friends not to wish her long life because of the pain. She applied it with her grandmother. She knew her granny would be going through much pain and so, she didn't wish her well.

"She should leave and go to a better place."

With that settled, her phone rang again. It was her doctor. Whenever her doctor called her, it was always to tell her something bad. She wondered what went wrong this time.

"Adele..." The doctor started.

"Yes, doctor Forger," She replied lowly, anticipating what the doctor would say.

"I'm sorry, Adele, but it seems you've advanced to the last stage and the advancement is fast. The cells are dividing faster than normal and at that rate, you have less than two months to..." The doctor couldn't complete her sentence.

"Two months, huh?" Adele didn't flinch at all.

"It's alright. Thank you, doctor Forger."

"You have to undergo surgery and chemotherapy as soon as possible. There might still be a chance. Treat this as urgent."

"Yes, doctor Forger." She hung up. Where was she supposed to get a hundred and fifty thousand dollars from? She barely owned a thousand because of the drugs she had to buy which cost about four thousand monthly.

She had two months while her granny had three. Surely she knew who was going to die first. She needed to extend her life span for a bit. She couldn't take a loan. It would take forever to pay. She could go into stripping either. She could spill blood on her customers and have them freak out. What was she to do?

The only thing that came to her mind after much racking was Mr. Hale.

"He seems like a pretty rich man. Surely, Serena wouldn't date someone broke. And someone with that much authority is bounded to have so much money." When she realized she was giving his offer a thought, she smacked her head.

"Not like I have a choice. Besides, it's just being his girlfriend. Wouldn't be too bad to date at least once before I die." She shrugged.

And heck, she deleted his number. How would she find him?
