Adele was the type that didn't like to bother others with her problems. So, she embarked on the mission of finding the devil she so badly wanted to run away from. Why won't he show up now that she needed him the most? She thought to herself as she paced about her room. She had tried backing up her messages but it seemed the message was gone for good. She didn't know why she let her anger get the best of her.
Adele had two plans on her mind. The first one was to confront her boss and find out why he fired her. Maybe she would eventually get it back. The second one was finding Mr. Hale if the first plan didn't work. With that settled and well played out in her mind, she dressed up and walked out of the room.
"Good morning, girl," She greeted Gina who was setting the table.
"Good morning, babe."
Gina had decided to act as though nothing had happened in the last three days. She had already agreed with her soul, spirit, and body that her friend would be leaving her soon. Though her heart ached at that thought, there was nothing she could do about it.
The two of them met back in junior school where Adele was cornered by a group of mentally bothered girls. Even though Gina didn't like interfering in people's life, she just couldn't walk by while Adele was being bullied. With her sharp-edged mouth, she warded the girls away and they never bothered Adele again. Gina found the girl cute and decided to befriend her.
"I'm preparing breakfast. Would you like to eat before going out?"
"No, thanks. I would do so when I get back."
That's right. She hadn't told Gina that she lost her job. She didn't have the opportunity to since because she had to deal with her ailment.
"Alright, I'll see you later then."
As soon as Adele passed through the door and shut the door behind her, the tears Gina was struggling to hold back fell. She was used to having Adele around. She didn't know how she would adjust if she ever left her. She sobbed as she plonked to one of the wooden seats.
"Why does it have to be this way?" She questioned the creator.
"It could have been anyone but her." She fisted both wrists as they sat shakily on her lap.
Adele had no idea the pain the news of her illness had caused her friends. What if she told them she had already advanced into the final stage and had barely three months to live? They would freak out and probably do something unreasonable to themselves.
Lance, on the other hand, struggled to raise the money for his friend's treatment. Alongside that, he kept thinking about the man he had met twice at the hospital. Though Adele said he was no one important, he still felt there was more between than meets the eye. He too was going through some mental breakdown. He couldn't imagine his life without Adele in it. It was how invested he was in the woman.
Adele arrived at her former workplace late. In the past few days, her health had greatly deteriorated and it affected her appearance. Though she was wise enough to cover up with makeup and big clothes. With that, nobody noticed how ill she was. Even with the prying, deadly eyes that stared at her at the entrance, she didn't relent in locating her boss' office. She knocked on the door and without waiting for a reply, she opened the door.
A lady was standing up quickly from the man's lap and dragging her skirt down while staring knives and daggers at the intruder. She didn't hear any knock and therefore, was taken aback by the unwanted presence of her ex-colleague.
The boss seemed rather unfazed by the whole drama and asked the lady to leave while Adele took a seat.
With an indifferent expression, she stared at her ex-boss who had a smirk on his face.
"Good thing I fired you. Or else, this would have been fatal."
She rolled her eyes and placed both hands on the desk.
"I want my job back!" She exclaimed.
"And what makes you think I'd do as you have said?" He relaxed back in his swivel seat with a mused smirk stuck on his lips. He was a fine man with his dirty blonde hair combed back to cover the nape of his neck while allowing his bangs to fall just below his brows. It gave him an alluring look but he was an arrogant man. At least, that was what Adele thought.
"Because you fired me for no good reason. You can't cut off my only source of livelihood and expect me to sit back." She furrowed her brows. She was upset. She needed more money for her drugs and to extend her life span but the man in front of her was proving stubborn and reluctant about her request.
"Why do you fire me?" Her eyes lit up with anger.
Dylan's thick, rich baritone laughter filled the room but it only infuriated her. How could he be laughing during such a critical situation? That was it. He was insane.
"I was just following orders, sweetie."
"Orders? From who?"
" That, I do not know." He sighed. He didn't want to remember the experience he had with a young boy with eyes like that of a blood-sucking lunatic.
"Now, run along and let me do my work" He was quick to flick his fingers, indicating her dismissal.
"Mr. Dylan..." She almost went down on her knees. If only he knew what she was going through, her would offer her back her job and some money.
"I'm done with you, Miss Bennett. Please, the door is that way." He was serious. He wasn't laughing or smirking as usual. Adele took that as her cue to leave before things got out of hand. She was ready to pull out that ugly hair of his and break some balls. But she knew she didn't have that energy. She decided to channel her remaining strength to plan B; finding Mr. Hale.
As she walked out, she met the lady whom she had met earlier.
"Just so you know, I took over your position. You can visit my office anytime you like." She said proudly.
"Just so you know, he won't fu*ck you even if you go to him naked. I know you tried but next time, be more convincing." The lady giggled and went back to the office. Before Adele had invaded their privacy, she was receiving a good, breathtaking handjob from her boss. She couldn't wait to go back in for more.
Adele stood outside the company, hopeless.
"Well, that didn't work out." She shrugged. "How am I supposed to find that man and why won't he show up now?" She stood under the scorching sun, thinking of what line of action to take next.
She decided to visit the nearest sim office to see if they could recover her deleted messages.
As she walked in the passenger lane, she kept looking around if she would accidentally see the man she had been looking for. If her luck was good, she would see him. After searching around effortlessly, she decided to give up. The city was too big to look for one person whom she knew nothing about, other than his name which she wasn't sure was his first name. Surely, there were lots of people with the last name 'Hale'.
As she was about to turn back to go home and accept her cruel fate, she caught sight of him in a car. His head rested on his wrist while he stared forward.
"It's him!" Her eyes widened. She began to run toward the car but unfortunately, it started to move.
"No, no, no, wait!" She increased her pace but there was a limit to how long she could run. She stopped a taxi and hurriedly got in.
"Don't lose sight of that car." She yelled at the driver who scoffed. He found her behavior offensive but he couldn't do anything about it. He was only after the money.
She tracked Mr. Hale's car down to a tall building that was about forty storeys tall The taxi wasn't allowed to pass through the gate, so she had to step down. This was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for her and she wasn't about to lose it. She paid the cabby and immediately approached the gate. She didn't see the direction his car took but she was sure he was still in the garage.
"Please, I need to speak to Mr. Hale." She requested as she approached the gate. While waiting for the guards approval, her eyes scanned the environment.
She just hoped he hadn't gone inside. It would make things difficult for her.
