Smiling Hides The Hurt

Once I was in Luke's car with Robert in the moving vehicle behind us I broke down in tears. Sobbing my heart out as I watched the scenery past us by. The place I came to alone, I built myself a life or so I thought. The pain is so intense that due to all my crying I had drifted off to sleep.

When I opened my eyes I was lost in thought when someone entered, "Good your awake," the voice of my sister floated around me as she went and opened all my curtains whether I wanted too or not. I forgot about her perky morning self, but it also took my mind off itself and focused on her "How you feeling?," she asked as she as she turned towards me with her hands on her hips. "Better now that I got heaps of rest," I said as laid back down "Breakfast is nearly ready, so have a shower then come downstairs," she spoke as she kissed me on my forehead before leaving.

I laid there without moving as I had another matter to attend too. Maverick Tyson was different kettle of fish, he was hard to ignore in my adolescent age as I was hyper aware of him but at the same time I could feel his indifference to me that made me start avoiding him altogether.

As a young child I had idolized Maverick since he was so much cooler at that age and he was the typical big brother that I had growing up but by the time he entered high school I was no longer welcomed around him and that was hard at the time but I did I kept my distance and by the time I entered high school I became my own person and only ever hung out with my sister.

Through my teen years my sister was my best friend and we did all the girlie stuff together before she went off to college. When she came home, we spent every day together that made our bond very strong.. When she brought Lucas around, we realised that he loved my sister, which made him tolerable.

By the time I joined college it was my first year and they both had moved in together, so I opted for a dorm room on campus and that is where I lived while on campus and spent the weekend with my sister and Lucas. It was so hard at first when my sister started bringing Lucas around as I didn't want to annoy him as I did with Maverick but that didn't seem to be the case. Lucas loved my sister so much that he treated me as his little sister too. Whenever I started dating Jacob he had met Lucas who preferred to be an active big brother and double date with my sister so that they could be nosey. He didn't like Sarah or Julie and made it a abundantly clear why with my sister rolling her eyes at him but always back him up and preferred dinner at there's cause my brother in law was a stuck snob and didn't like other people in his space.

As my first two years in college and passed I had only seen maverick five times out of the many times he met with my sister and parents. My last encounter with him had me stunned as his 6 ft 2 stood towering over me as I gazed out at the city below. In between my classes, dinner with my parents and catch ups with my sister my days were fill of classes and nights filled with studying as I had pushed through my studies like crazy.

I had just finished my finals for that semester and had gone home for Christmas. Everyone was busy downstairs and I was tired so I had snuck off and had been up here for about twenty minutes when Maverick arrived staring down at me. Flicking my eyes in his direction I noticed he was staring at me while running his hands through his hair.

I looked away and continued staring at the quietness of home. "Are you avoiding me," he spoke as I rolled my eyes and just frowned at him "Did you miss me?," I said as I turned towards him as he just stared at me silently "Stop avoiding me," he spoke as I just frowned before looking away when I felt him sit down next to me as we both stared ahead of us.

"I do miss you, seems like I have only seen you in passing," he said as he bumped my shoulder, I had just stared ahead of me as I stared ahead of me "You were annoyed by my presence," I said as I turned my head in his direction, "You hated me and it hurt, so I ignored you instead," I said as I looked him up and down.

Staring at his perfection made me realised he was so was solid. I reached out too touch him and wow he was definitely solid not an ounce of fat at all "What are you a gym monkey?," I asked as I was staring at him from his shoulder "I've always been like this," he scoffed as he bumped me off, "You were skin and bone at that time now, almost like an alien," I teased as I see his head snap in my direction "I'm not an alien," he said a little gruffly so I gave him a raised eyebrow "In action your all business but in your environment your an alien," I said as I laughed at his expression which earned me laugh as he bursted out laughing,"Not even grown men will have big enough balls to call me an alien and too my face," he spoke as I laughed and rolled my eyes at him "I'm not scared of you, I'm big enough to argue with you," I said as I laughed at him rolling his eyes.

"Only four females in my life like to call me names to my face," he said with he let out a sigh. I bursted out laughing at his statement since he only had four ladies in his life and three over a course of nearly six years as I had been avoiding him like he had germs. "Your the only boy with two girls what did you expect and now you have Lucas as a back up against my sister," I teased when he frowned and shook his head. "No way he wouldnt side against the four females either he's useless to my defense," Maverick sounded put out as I would think with Lucas will be a brotherhood for him but guess not especially knowing my sister she would go rounds with Rick if she had too and even Lucas knew not to step in.

"What do you expect you need friends and we your only friends but at least you got one male amongst us," I said when he laid his head on my lap as he stared at the night sky "That's true may be the only brother I get in life," he said as he stared at me silently, I just looked at him with my eyebrow raised "Shut up," I said as pulled his hair "No one asked you," I spoke as looked back at the city.

It had been so many years since I had a proper conversation with Maverick who was mean, no patience, teenage angst. I had stopped interacting with him and this would be the only proper encounter we have had since we were still young. "Gentle, I still member when you tried ripping my hair out and it still sensitive," he yelped as he rubbed the spot I pulled "Boohoo you big baby," I sniped at him as I resumed threading my hands through his short hair.

"Here you both are, food is ready," Lucas announced as he stepped out onto the terrace balcony with us, "I'm comfortable can you send it up to us please,"averick asked as my brother had turned to look back in the room "Way ahead of you all," my sister spoke as she came in carrying dishes in her arms as she placed it on my mother's Mahogany table that sits up here. How she got it up here I have no clue.

Standing up to sit at the table and we all watched as my sister handed out plates of hot food, cold foods, salads and fruit before placing the drinks in front of us to grab when thirsty that I stared at my sisters amazing spread. She was always able to handle large crowds and entertaining people while I came down only for food and drinks then would head straight back up to the first floor where I could relax away from others..

Tonight dinner had both my parents siblings and parents as well as Mavericks parents siblings and his grandparents. It happened to also be Allison's and Lucas engagement since he had finally decided to put her out of her misery and she said yes.
