Old acquaintance

"Aiden!!" Alexa screamed, her hand instinctively stretching out to snatch the document from him. But he was too quick, and she failed to grab it.

"What do you think you're doing?!" she demanded, her voice laced with panic.

"Easy, Alexa, don't choke," Aiden said calmly, his eyes glinting with amusement. "It's dangerous to be agitated while eating hot and spicy food, didn't you know?"

Alexa swallowed hard, her heart racing. What is he trying to do?

"A–Aiden, careful, it might burn!" she warned, her eyes fixed on the document as it hovered dangerously close to the flame.

"Do you still want to divorce me, Alexa?" Aiden asked, his voice deceptively gentle.

"I never said I would!" she protested, her words tumbling out without thought.

Aiden nodded quietly, his eyes never leaving hers. "But I find it hard to believe. What do we do?"

Alexa's gaze remained fixed on the document, her mind racing. What can she say to appease him?
