34. Drunk mind, Sober heart 2

After the kiss, Walter pulled me in for a hug, "I know I have been making you anxious these days, but please, please give me time, please.", he leaned further towards my side to open the door, and we took the elevator and stopped on the 5th floor.

Unlike my apartment, Walter's place was more modern and equipped with all the high-tech stuff, for example, instead of a keyhole, his door required a passcode. The moment his door opened, I was greeted by a big window glass wall that reflected the lights from the opposite building at night. His couch was a brown leather and looked too expensive to sit on, to be honest. His kitchen appliances were all metallic, as opposed to mine which were color-coded and the retro fridge I had, was nothing compared to his hi-tech fridge where you didn't have to open the door to know what was inside. The dimmed lights gave the place a romantic, yet cold feel. Walter handed me a bottle of water, went to a room, which I presume was his bedroom, came back in more comfortable clothes, and handed me his grey T-shirt to change into. He closed the curtains for the big windows using a remote.

I was honestly taken aback, "Uhm, so, this is your place?", I had never imagined myself ever stepping foot into such a place, I was also lowkey motivated to work harder till the day I can afford such luxuries.

He went to the kitchen, "What do you want to eat?".

Come to think of it, I didn't get to eat Sandra's roast chicken, I just kept chugging the wine, on an empty stomach, no wonder, I became tipsy after a single glass, "Anything,", I replied.

He put on an apron and began taking ingredients from his fridge and cabinets, I heard the chopping, slicing, and boiling sounds from the kitchen. In an hour, he was done and called me to the black bar stools next to the kitchen counter which had two plates of Mac'n'Cheese. I must have been very hungry because I asked for seconds. It looks like Walter knew his way around the kitchen as well, "You are a very good cook, who taught you?".

Walter took the plates, to put them in the washer behind him, "My granny taught me, she passed on 2-years ago", his face was filled with regret which he quickly flushed with a smile, "I would offer you ice cream, but I think mixing that with wine might not be good for you, so here is coffee instead",

It looked like his grandmother's death was still as fresh as it happened, so I did not probe any further, and changed the subject, "Coffee is fine, but Walter, why were you dressed so nicely, did you have a meeting or something,"

"I wanted to take you out to dinner. About the flowers, I am sorry, I always buy those flowers for the women in my family, they are my go-to flowers. That was before even Rachel came into the picture, but I guess is time to change, I will get you sunflowers starting today.", he said

I sipped on the coffee, "Okay, what did you want to talk about on a fancy meal, I assume fancy, because of how you were dressed",

"Uhm, might as well, you look sober enough, uhm, so, I have a lot to be sorry about. Starting from Rachel coming to your office, my cousin told me about that. The flowers, the distractions, taking her call in front of you,", He said.

I didn't expect him to already have a list prepared, and I kept forgetting the other thing I needed to talk to him about, "Okay, but we spoke ab-".

Walter cut me off to say,

"I like you, a lot."
