Paper Making (1)

Devin has not forgotten his goal of introducing paper-making as a production in Sun Haven Village. He searched the internet for a suitable paper-making method that would be suitable for the village.

Realizing that many people in Sun Haven may be illiterate, Devin decided to print the steps along with accompanying diagrams since illustrations would be easier to understand.

Devin proceeded to order large screens for the desired paper size, as well as the necessary clothing needed to start the paper-making process. The remaining ingredients could be obtained from the island itself.

After taking a two-day rest, both Devin and Alex logged back into Oasis feeling rejuvenated and ready to tackle Grandmaster Byron's task.

Leaving their room, the pair set out to find the village chief. They were met with warm smiles from the villagers, who appeared no longer gloomy or sad. Children could be seen playing happily in the surroundings.

Devin and Alex encountered Kylian in front of the door. Curious, Devin asked, "Is the village chief inside?"

Kylian nodded excitedly, replying, "Yes, Leader. Come in. Father is inside."

Devin reassured Kylian, "You can continue to address us the same way. Devin is fine, and Alex is still your friend."

Kylian beamed happily as Alex playfully threw his hand over Kylian's shoulder. Alex jokingly asked, "Don't you still consider me your friend?"

Kylian rolled his eyes, accustomed to Alex's playful nature, and welcomed them inside.

Kylian announced their arrival to his father, stating, "Dad, Devin and Alex are here."

The village chief expressed genuine concern, asking, "You guys were out. I hope everything went well?"

"Thank you village chief it went well"

The village smiled at this "leader, do you need help with something?"

"Village chief can still call me Devin," corrected Devin.

"No leader is fine. Hierarchy must not be messed up." Devin didn't bother arguing with the village chief.

"I noticed the village doesn't have a good source of income and is poor. So I thought of a way to move the development of the village forward. In order to develop the village money is needed so I found a way to make money and that is paper making" said Devin.

The village chief couldn't hide his excitement, he also wants to develop the village but he has no knowledge of what to do to make income for the village.

Kylian spoke first in excitement, "leader is this true?"

"yes I have the method with me, the village chief knows the villagers better than I do so he can pick strong laborer and hardworking people to start" answered Devin.

"Leader this is good but what about the channel?" asked the village chief.

"I have a channel. The owner of High wave Enterprise is my friend. As long as the paper we produce is of high quality and the price is better than the one in the market he will be interested"

The village chief couldn't control his happiness "This is good! Ha I didn't make mistake suggesting you as the village owner"

Kylian nodded his head in agreement.

"Village chief paper making is just the beginning"

The village chief couldn't stop smiling.

"Leader, what are the materials needed?" Asked kylian.

"First village chief, please inform the villagers to stop cutting the Arbor tree. That is the most important resource for the village" said Devin.

The village chief and Kylian were confused by this information "Leader are you sure?" Asked the confused village chief.

Devin's explanation left the village chief and Kylian stunned, their eyes widening with newfound understanding of the Arbor tree's value. The chief, still trying to process the information, asked with a mix of surprise and curiosity, "You mean to say that the Arbor tree has all these uses?"

Devin nodded, affirming his statements. "Yes, Village Chief. The Arbor tree is a true treasure for our village. Its versatility and abundance make it an invaluable resource. Let me explain further."

"The Arbor tree's trunk is solid and sturdy, offering an abundant supply of raw material for constructing homes, huts, and buildings," Devin began. "Additionally, the wood from the tree can be fashioned into small ships and canoes, opening opportunities for trade and exploration."

The village chief's eyes lit up with newfound realization. "So, by utilizing the Arbor tree, we can enhance our trade prospects and expand our horizons?"

Devin nodded, encouraged by the chief's understanding. "Exactly, Village Chief. But that's not all. The Arbor tree also provides other valuable resources. For instance, by harnessing the tree's sap, we can produce brown sugar. This sweet commodity can be used for culinary delights within our village and can also become a valuable trade item."

Kylian's excitement grew as he absorbed the information. "So, with the Arbor tree's sap, we can create a new income source and satisfy our sweet tooth as well?"

Devin grinned. "Absolutely, Kylian. But there's even more. The sap can also be transformed into wine, which can provide both enjoyment and income. Furthermore, the leaves of the Arbor tree can be used for thatching roofs, weaving mats, and even making paper. This expands our potential for various industries and boosts the village's economic prospects."

The village chief's eyes gleamed with a newfound appreciation for the Arbor tree's significance. "It seems I underestimated the value of the Arbor tree. We have been wasting resources all this whole. This is what lack of knowledge will do" said the village chief in regret.

" I will immediately inform the villagers to cease cutting down these precious trees."

"So we need to protect the Arbor tree, the villagers can cut other trees but not this one" said Devin.

"Don't worry leader, I will inform the elders. We will come up with a way to inform everyone without revealing all the secrets concerning the Arbor tree," said the village chief Kellan.

"That's a good idea, the secrets of the village must be kept under wraps in order not to attract unwanted attention right now we don't have the means to protect ourselves" said Alex seriously. He knows the village chief and the Elders are smart people so they should know what he is implying.

The village chief thought deeply and understands better than Alex and he knows Devin has a genuine plan for the village to rise. He can see that these two brothers are nothing in the pool; the sun haven village needs them, not the other way round. This is the opportunity given to them by their ancestors; they can't afford to mess it up.

"The village chief, Kellan, nodded in agreement with Alex's statement. 'You're right, Alex. We must ensure the secrets of the Arbor tree and our village's potential remain protected. At this point, we don't have the means to defend ourselves against unwanted attention.'

While Alex's words carried a serious undertone, the village chief understood the implied warning. He knew that Alex believed in the village's potential but was cautioning against revealing too much too soon. With a contemplative expression, the village chief reflected on the significance of the opportunity presented to them by their ancestors. They couldn't afford to squander it. Realizing Devin's genuine plan for the village's rise, the chief understood that the village needed them, not the other way around.

"Yes, Alex, we will gather the elders and come up with a plan," the chief affirmed. 'We understand the importance of keeping our village's secrets hidden for now. We will ensure the necessary steps are taken to safeguard our future."

"Don't worry, leader, I won't disappoint you," promised Chief Kellan.

"I don't doubt your capabilities, Village Chief. There's another thing that is needed. I don't know if the village has a kiln?" requested Devin.

"We have a kiln that we use to make pottery," answered the Village Chief.

"Then it makes the next thing easy. We need a group to gather sea shells in large amounts to calcify in the kiln, another group to dig a shallow square pits that is easily accessible for soaking the falling Arbor leaves, and big jars to store the lime mixture," Devin instructed as he showed the Village Chief the drawings.

"Kylian, go invite the elders. Tell them it's urgent," instructed the Village Chief.
