Sarah's POV:
I helped him with the bandage before cleaning the broken vase pieces on the floor.
"Why did you clean that?" He looked confused.
"Because it needed to be cleaned," or else why would I clean it? Wasn't his question a little stupid?
"Last week I made an offer, but you never replied," Anthony said; he had mentioned that at Kim's gala. What offer did he make to Elma?
"I suggested we stay married until Josh is of the appropriate age to bear the divorce news; let's do this for our son," he explained, since Elma didn't mention this and she still chose to push forward with her plan after he made this proposal. Then it means she didn't agree.
"Uhm, it's late, and I am starving. I will leave now," I said hastily and quickly walked out of his office when he followed me.
"What the hell is your problem?" He scolded, and I sighed before pressing the elevator button. "I don't have a problem."
"Then answer me, will you still push forward with the divorce or not?"
"Anthony i…"
"Just answer. Are we still pushing through with the divorce?" He kept pressuring me to answer, and my head was in a mess.
"Yes!!"
"Yes, we are pushing through with it; please just stay far from me." Finally, the elevator opened, and I walked in.
He was making it hard for me; I wasn't Elma and didn't know about their relationship, so if he kept interacting with me so much, he might see through my mask.
"You are so heartless," Anthony scoffed before walking into the elevator as well.
"Why are you following me?"
"I am going home to my kids; do you have a problem with that?" he asked, and I shook my head in denial. The elevator door closed, and I stood a little far from him.
I looked at the countdown; I just wanted the elevator to stop so that I could flee this place. To my surprise, it stopped moving, and the countdown stopped as well before switching off.
"What happened?" I asked worriedly and looked at Anthony.
"The power is down," he replied. How could the power be down? Are they not rich?
"You are joking, right?"
"Of course, it's a joke," he answered, and I sighed in relief.
"I mean, the elevator is moving completely well... The time just paused, but believe me, it's moving," he said sarcastically, and I frowned. This man was such a jerk.
Then he looked at my bag, and I was confused. "I left my phone in the office," he said.
"Oh, you were going to meet your kids without a phone... Is that a habit?" I asked sarcastically.
"Just call someone," he sneered, and I rolled my eyes before taking out the phone from the bag and typing the password.
"Why don't you just use the fingerprint?" Anthony asked, and I got nervous. How was I supposed to use the fingerprint when it was Elma's?
"It's my phone; can't I use what I want?"
"Who should I call?" I asked, and he chuckled.
"How about the guy who bought you the lingerie? Tell him his great work of art is suffocating with her toxic husband in an elevator."
What type of messed-up person was he? But his reply made me burst out in laughter. In my mind, I was imagining what Elma's reaction would have been if she were in my place.
She would have probably stumped her legs on the ground, and she would have known who to call.
"For real, who am I calling?" I asked again; I didn't want to stay stuck here because I was starving.
"If you were stuck here alone, who would you call?" Anthony asked.
"You" I didn't even need to think twice; maybe it's because he was the only adult I knew in Elma's life. And I am sure that's what Elma will do when she needs someone urgently.
He kept looking at me, and I felt uncomfortable. It was dark, and I couldn't see his clear expressions, but it was obvious he was looking at me.
"What changed?" He asked out of the blue, and I couldn't reply because I didn't know what he was talking about.
"You bandaged my injury; you will never do that because you hate the sight of blood. You cleaned the broken vase; that is something you never do because you are scared you will get injured and there will be a scar.
You are always thinking of yourself first."
"I still think about myself," I butted in. It seems I have been doing a bad job being Elma, and I had to change my ways.
"Of course, that side of you can never be gone forever."
"Thanks for the compliment," I added before putting on the torch on my phone. Then I went through Elma's contact list and saw George; he was the caring older brother.
So I dialed his number, but there was a beeping sound; there was no network. "How come there is no network?"
"It only means someone turned down the power," he explained. Why would someone turn down the power? And what has the network got to do with someone turning off the power?
"Give me your phone," he said, and I handed it to him. He held my phone and looked at me, surprised.
"I remembered the day you had a leg injury; you preferred to walk a long way back home than to let me hold your phone," he stated.
Then he manipulated some stuff before dialing a contact: "There is no..."
"Yes, the power is off. Go turn it on," he said once the call got connected.
"You were saying?" he asked mockingly.
"How did you manage to call? There was no network seconds ago."
"There was no network on your phone, but the company wifi is on."
I was speechless; I didn't even know how the networks worked here, so I decided to stay quiet. Then the elevator started moving again, and I smiled at Anthony, who nodded.
"Finally, now I can touch the ground," I chuckled as we both walked out of the elevator when the security guard hurried towards us.
"Sorry that the power was switched off; I had a moment of weakness and didn't notice that," he explained.
"Don't explain much; you are fired," Anthony said before walking out.
"Sir..." the guard called, but he didn't stop.
"Hey, Anthony." I followed him outside, and he walked to the parking lot before getting into his car.
"How could you fire him that easily?" I asked, but he ignored me.
"I am leaving; you have a minute to get in, or you can call the lingerie guy to come pick you up."
It was already late, and I couldn't spot Jude around, so now I had no choice but to follow him. I got in, and he drove away. "Your seatbelt," he reminded me.
"The guard said he had a moment of weakness, and you fired him immediately without bothering to ask."
"Women," he said, and I raised a brow, confused.
"His moment of weakness was a woman; they make some men lose their minds... He risked the security of my company all because of a woman," he said in a tone filled with annoyance.
"You know, he probably meant he fell asleep."
"Just keep quiet, or I will drop you."
Now he won't admit the fact that he was wrong. I sighed and looked out of the window. The drive was silent, and I liked it this way.
Then I saw a control up front; some policemen signaled for us to stop, and Anthony did.
"Good evening, sir, ma'am... I am Senior Officer 1, Jeremy Portail. Can I see your identity card?" He asked with a respectful tone, and my eyes widened in shock.
"Of course" Anthony handed his card to the officer; Elma didn't give me her card. Perhaps she needed it to be able to travel, and I can't show mine, it says Sarah.
"Elma, give your card," Anthony said, and I didn't know how to escape this situation.
