"The car ride home was shrouded in unsettling silence. Lily stole glances at Raven, his face calm, his eyes set ahead as he focused on the road. Shame gnawed at her. Her outburst felt childish and impulsive; she didn't know Raven would be invited. She had tried to remain calm around Victoria, but today was just too much, and she couldn't hold back.

Right now, Lily couldn't read Raven's mind or expression. Back at the school, he mentioned punishing her, yet he praised her like he was proud of her actions. Now he was just quiet. The silence was beginning to eat Lily up from inside.

Finally, she couldn't hold it in any longer. "Raven, I—"

"Hungry?" Raven cut her off, his richly velvety voice low.

Lily blinked, surprised by the response that had nothing to do with the fight. "Uh, yeah, a little."
