Schemes and Taunts

Two hours later, Ryker headed out the great hall with the other nobles, feeling mentally drained. It seemed much had happened when he was away and while he hadn’t completely been out of the loop, he had much to do.

It was clear the king was trying to put as much pressure on him as possible to have him fail. That way he would have an excuse to come after Ryker and the Westerwyn Duchy.

The council thing didn’t help but at least it wouldn’t hold him down in the capital. He would just need to make sure he kept an eye on the whole thing.

Have someone he trusted watch over the day-to-day operations and make sure nothing funny happened when he wasn’t around. There weren’t many people he trusted but maybe…

“Duke Westerwyn!” A voice called out, interrupting Ryker’s thoughts.

Ryker turned to the direction of the voice, finding himself staring at the duke’s son. They were alone in the hallways making Ryker wonder if Duke Einar had set his son up to this.
