Part 3 - Invisible Flames

One suddenly hit me with the grip of a gun and I stumbled back. They forgot to load it highly likely. Their leader suddenly disintegrated them and cracked his neck. A sudden gust of heat swooped over me. Fire. Like the one of a Bunsen burner.

Invisible to the human eye. I swallowed and tried to flee as the surroundings of mine were lit ablaze. I jumped at the now easily 2-meter-tall human, to shove my claws into his chest. No use. I was hit by another set of flames and landed in the water. The freezing water off the Inn made me gasp. I quickly got back on shore just to be dried with another wave of these flames. I hoped a pro would arrive soon. I heard a few teens run off and I sighed. At least I saved them.

The beast of a man cursed hearing the teens run off. "Fuck you." He said to me and I noticed I was stuck. Nowhere to go, nothing to help me. Except one thing. I charged the boss. I dove under his legs and my claws managed to cut open the crotch of his pants. I had almost gotten his sensitive parts. If it wasn't for my fur my back would have been scratched open by now. I tried again and just before I fell into the Inn after being hit by another flame, I heard him scream and something fleshy hit the stones on the ground.

I got out the water and was hit by a huge heatwave. I definitely had burns somewhere on my body, even if due to adrenaline and my power I couldn't feel them. Then I deactivated my power. I felt my whole body effectively scream in pain. I screamed and fell over, passing out. I had severe 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my arms, chest, thighs and shins. I didn't see the pro arrive but I was taken to a hospital for hero related injuries.

I woke up to a woman in a white shirt and black suit, with a red tie looking at me. She gave me a serious yet condescending look. "I am Savethal. leader of the Austrian Commission for Superhumans or the ACS as most of you call us." She said in a cold and stoic voice. A slight bit of compassion was in it too as she looked at me. "You are in a horrible state Christopher. But you managed to put that fucker in jail. Not bad. Especially since no one really knew what ability he possessed. We now know. He can fuse with others and get their powers and skill level. No wonder he always went under our radar." She said and chuckled coldly. The chuckle seemed out of character, as I saw her cold and professional appearance. But her compassion was not fake, she just hid it well.

I got up from my bed the next day. I shook my head after having thought about what had happened all those years ago. I still didn't tell anyone, including my therapist. If it got out I what I did to those bullies I was basically dead. "Glad we don't have the death penalty here." I said aloud, as I carried myself to the kitchen lazily, just to grab a can of Energy Drink. It was called every noon if you translated the brand name into English. A brand made by the shop I bought it in. 0.49 Euros... Cheap. But it worked. I cracked open the can before falling onto the couch of my living room. I turned on the TV only for it to be turned off by someone.

"Oh come on." I blurted out, already knowing who it was. "Savethal. I am fine." "No, you are not. You are a good one. That's why I care." The woman in the suit said as she sat down. She had, as always, teleported into my flat without informing me just to give me a lecture again. I wasn't the highest-ranking hero by a far, just being at rank 15, not like there were many heroes here in Tyrol probably just 25 or 30 in all of Austria maybe 100 or 110. The thing is I got shit done without complaining. "You don't. Don't fake it. Just leave me alone and fuck off. If you want me to, I'll focus on my music. And not do what ables me to live." I said slightly sarcastically and watched her try to find a reason to keep me. I wanted to quit. That's really all I wanted. Although I hated when my passions became work. It never was a story with a happy end, this heroshit worked out well. It was just the fact that I was surrounded by fake people all the time that made it shit for me.

"We can pay you until you earn money." Savethal said and sighed. "Actually, I will. Just do not go back to heroing until you're better." She added and teleported away as her body flickered.

I leaned back and groaned. I rubbed my eyes, emphasizing the bags I had under them. I grabbed my laptop and opened it with a sigh. "I can't say no to Save. I hate that." I mumbled and turned the laptop on. It was a sliver HP with the system of windows running on it. I put a random large sticker poorly over the logo, back when I taught some hero classes in Vienna. I had picked a giant pokéball and it was sideways. I didn't care. Never did and nor did anyone else. Plus, I liked the franchise anyway, even if it got shitty with the last instalments with the later installments. I opened Opera and used my marked website tab to get to my production software. I let out a sigh and stretched and got to work for a bit before turning it off and walking to the kitchen. "Fuck me..." I said as I opened the fridge only to find it almost empty. "Guess Subway it is... I should order again." I concluded and went to call the place so I could get my lunch. I hadn't noticed but I got up at 8.00 am, at 9.00 Savethal had come over and then I worked till 11.30. I was hungry as I ordered and hung up, grabbing a bottle of Radler, basically a beer mixed with sprite, and opened it. I let out a long sigh and wondered how to make today pass quickly. I didn't wish to make more music. I wanted to do what I was actually paid to do. The ACS guys above Save would cut my funds after a week or two, just assuming I died. Save tried her best not to have me quit or die ever since she saw me for the first time. I shook my head and looked at the full energy drink can. I cursed and emptied it quickly and thought why I didn't throw it at Save. I threw it into the trash bag I had specifically for them.
