Part 4 - Minor Threats

I started to drink my alcoholic beverage as the doorbell rang. "Hello? If you're the food delivery guy I am on the sixth floor." I said lazily, wanting as little social interaction as possible. Only to be met back with a voice I knew too well. It was a deep and gritting voice. "You are dead badgerfuck."

I put the phone of the doorbell that let me talk to the person back into its place. I cursed. "Guess that's it then." I thought and I heard the glass and door on the ground floor break. It probably alerted a lot of people. They highly likely called the police, considering the elders in here were very much against heroes or people with powers. I looked at my phone and tapped on Saves contact. She would probably just send over a high-ranking hero to fight the guy but I didn't want a bloodbath in the house. I still let it ring for a few seconds before hanging up. Soon the woman showed up behind me. "What is it?" She asked and looked at me, knowing very well I never called her. I told her the gist of it and she gave a nod, before calling someone. "I called reinforcements." She said and sighed. "Just don't open that door."

"Never planned to." I said bluntly and went back to the dining room, which could be considered the hallway. It breached off to the kitchen, living room and bathroom. I sat down on the bench and sighed. I never told Save but I did not care about my life. I only really had one person I cared about. No, I was single. I never got a girlfriend or boyfriend. I had always wondered why nothing worked out. Maybe it was because of who I was. Not like I had ever cared much. I was glad I had a single friend I could rely on. A good friend you could say I loved. Even if she wasn't a hero or someone with powers. I got out my phone and opened a messenger app. A platform sadly known for drug dealers and conspiracy theorists but I only had one contact that I chatted with. "Hey Sky. Got a guy at my throat at home. Dunno if I can fight and win. If I don't reply in the next 24 hours consider me dead." I texted quickly and pocketed my phone. I rested my head on the wooden desk and sighed.

"The fuck, are you?" The villain asked after a gunshot. "Killshot." A male voice said. A shot of a Bynadett 92 A1 Pistol. It fired 9 mm Parabellum rounds. I didn't know what was different from a regular 9mm with the parabellum but I didn't care and never had. The power of the guy already was obvious to me. It was probably some aiming power, somewhat similar to an aimbot in shooter games. He probably always hit his shot or something like that. Then the scream of the male that called himself Killshot. The male highly likely got killed, knowing that I dealt with threats that were strong on a close range like myself and that guns usually weren't useful, I got up and sighed. "I'll go. Take them out." I said and got my trenchcoat and forced my feet into the military boots and closed the two belts on the top. As I put my trenchcoat on Savethal put her hand on my shoulder. "Look. Just let me do this." I said and went to take the elevator down to the ground floor. Save didn't stop me, not like she could. I got out the elevator and looked at the villain. "What do ya want? I wanted to relax today." I said without a care in the world, my powers already active. I had lost my badger ears not long into my carrier, but I still got the enhanced senses and I didn't really fear death ever since I tried to end it all, even if my power was more likely to blame. I cracked my neck and let myself be hit a few times. The attacks were fast and hit hard but I felt my fur keeping the damage off of me, I somehow was quite strong. This fight was rather exciting but I still didn't really manage to care that much. I finally got his attack pattern and hopped at his shoulder between two hits. I cut his shoulder with my claws. "Countering Slash. Or whatever I called it." I exclaimed in a monotone and bored tone of voice and landed on my feet. The male collapsed and was soon arrested. I went to retreat into the flat. Now I wouldn't get any privacy from kids, teens or villains. I cursed under my breath as the elevator moved back up.

I was alone in the flat now. Save had left to take care of the villain. I just took the ripped and beaten up trenchcoat and my boots off and put them where they belonged before going into the bathroom and letting myself a bath in. I looked at myself in the bathroom mirror. A male with pale skin, serious bags under their eyes, long black hair and green eyes looked back at me. I sighed at my lack of sleep. I shook it off and laid in the tub, once it was full. I let out a long sigh and smiled a bit for the first time in ages. My phone buzzed and I saw it was Skylar. I picked up. "Hi! How are you Sky?" I asked, sounding happy. "I'm okay. Are you fully alright? What the hell was that fight all about?" She asked from the other end of the line. "Beats me. I just wanted to end it quickly. I just quit this hero stuff. Mostly because Save forced me to." I said and told her what happened. "Oh shit. That sucks. Well. I may visit ya soon." She said and hung up. I smiled at the ceiling. I took a deep breath and remembered when I met Skylar. It was when I gave lectures, yet it wasn't in Vienna or a big city well known to most people, no it was in Innsbruck, where I lived.

I got off the train at Hauptbahnhof and sighed. I had my headphones on as I walked to the Medical University. They had nicely asked me to give a lecture about how powers manifested but I had written the presentation rather quickly and without any seriousness. I had my laptop with it in my bag and I knew I didn't prepare shit.
