Chapter 57: Betrayal

To my surprise, Walther was right. The drone veered from our direction to the west of our position.

"Told you, sir!" Walther smiled and continued, "Cool heads prevail!"

I felt relief for a moment, with the enemy's sight away from us. Now I can stretch my legs, "What shall we do now?" I asked Walther still on his binoculars.

"Stay still sir, we have to make sure that the enemy is far away before we move. Our group can be easily spotted by them." Walther suggested.

I took Walther's advice and remained in my position for minutes. Despite the grass being uncomfortable to my skin and the heat, unforgiving, I endured it.

Explosions and gunfire suddenly erupted at seven hundred meters away. The enemy, on patrol with two APCs and a squad of soldiers, hurried away from our position. Waiting for the last soldier to leave, Walther ordered everyone to report to him.
