Chapter 58: Change of Faith

Several mangled remains of enemy APCs and two other vehicles lay before me. The dead and the dying also lay on the ground from both the Asturian soldiers and my men. The wounded screamed in pain helplessly.

As I approached the remaining boat, one of my wounded men grabbed me by my ankle, "We did it… I'm glad!"

Looking at his condition, he was seriously wounded. First aid won't help him and even if I tend to his wounds he won't survive.

"We did!" I replied as a word of comfort for him.

"Let's get out of here… Mr. Shayne!"

A loud gunshot from my trusty revolver sounded. The birds scrambled away frightened by the sound. The man let go, lifeless on the ground.

This time, I have no time for sentiments. Although there's some sense of morality left in me. I cannot allow anyone to drag or be a liability.
