Chapter 155: Obito's Regret

"Next week is the final exam, so everyone should review at home over the weekend," Mutsuki reminded at the end of the last class on Friday.

There won't be any classes next week, as we'll have exams from Monday to Wednesday, followed by a break.

"Another holiday is coming."

"What should we do during the break? Hiking, picnic?"

"I hope I do well on the exam. If I score ninety in theory and thirty in practical, I can have a comfortable holiday..."

As the talk shifted to the upcoming final exams, students in the classroom began discussing.

"Yumi-sensei, are we going to have special training during the break? Have you decided?" Kotetsu asked.

He wasn't worried about not being in the top eight; he had the advantage of participating in special training and didn't slack off in his regular training.

"Everything's set. There will be special training at the end of this semester as well. It will start on the third day after the exam results are out, and the selected students will be notified by the school in advance," Mutsuki said.

The internship program doesn't affect the holiday special training, as both will be conducted simultaneously.

"Will you still be the one teaching, Yumi-sensei?" Izumo asked, voicing his main concern.

If someone other than Mutsuki is in charge as the sensei, his expectations would decrease somewhat, as not every sensei can teach as well as Mutsuki.

"I won't be responsible for the holiday special training this time. I have other things to attend to," Mutsuki replied.

"But don't worry, there will be three sensei teaching together this time. The school takes this matter seriously," Mitsuki added.

Considering that other sensei may not have the teaching ability of Mutsuki, Hiruzen arranged for two additional sensei to assist, both of whom have outstanding performance records.

"Oh, so does that mean we won't get to see you for a long time, Yumi-sensei?" Anko expressed some disappointment.

"I'll also try to check on the progress of the special training if I have time," Mutsuki said with a smile.

After class, Mutsuki talked to the disciples about the internship program.

"This holiday, Obito and Guy, you two won't need to participate in the special training. Instead, you'll experience ninja work in advance as interns," Mutsuki said.

"Internship as a ninja?"

"Experience ninja work in advance?"

Obito and Guy focused on different aspects.

"Yumi-sensei, does experiencing ninja work in advance mean we'll be doing mission assignments?" Guy asked.

"That's right," Mutsuki nodded.

"However, due to being interns, you'll only be able to accept lower-level mission assignments," Mutsuki explained.

"Will completing the missions also come with a commission like regular ninja?" Guy asked excitedly.

If that's the case, Guy thinks it's great because he can contribute to the household expenses through his efforts.

"The commission fee is the same as for regular ninja," Mutsuki replied with a smile.

"Is it just me and Guy? What about Rin-chan and Shisui?" Obito asked after thinking for a moment.

"The internship as a ninja is for fourth-grade students. Shisui is a first-grade student, so he can't participate."

"As interns, only a few fourth-grade students are selected. The other students will continue with normal special training, and Rin-chan wasn't chosen," Mutsuki continued to explain.

"I see, that's too bad," Obito said with regret.

As an intern ninja getting acquainted with ninja work in advance, Obito felt it was a good thing. He could earn money and become an excellent ninja faster in the future.

"It's indeed a bit regrettable, but there's nothing we can do if we're not chosen. You guys can share your experiences as Genin workers when the time comes," Rin said with a smile.

Rin, who wasn't selected, did feel a bit regretful, but not too much. Even if she didn't get this internship, she would still graduate and become a ninja in a few months.

"It's on me. I'll make sure to tell you all about the mission process and my experiences," Obito said, patting his chest.

"Thank you, Obito," Rin replied with a gentle smile.

"The assignment of interns is similar to that of regular ninjas. Three students are paired with one guiding sensei in a group, and you and Guy are in the same group," Mutsuki continued.

Upon hearing this from Mutsuki, Obito felt even more regretful. It would have been great if he were in the same group as Rin. They could have done missions together every day, and Rin would surely have gained a deeper understanding of his exceptional qualities.

"Yumi-sensei, if there are three students in a group, who's the other person?" Obito asked curiously.

"You'll find out later. It's someone you know," Mutsuki replied with a chuckle.

"Someone I know? Is it Uchiha Tekka? Or Shiranui Genma?" Obito asked, suggesting a few names, but Mutsuki shook his head in denial each time. Obito scratched his head and didn't ask further. The range of people he knew was too large to guess.

"It doesn't matter as long as it's not Kakashi," Obito thought to himself.

He felt it was completely impossible. Kakashi had graduated several years ago; how could he still be participating in Academy internships?

"After you go back, remember to study hard. There's still the final exam before the internship," Mutsuki reminded.

"Oh, I almost forgot about the exam. That annoying Shadow Clone, I told him to study, but he ignored me," Obito lamented.

Although using Shadow Clones for studying was painful when dispelled, the pain from Shadow Clones was momentary, while studying on his own was sustained pain.

"You have to keep pushing. Even if you improve in practical skills, you can't neglect theory," Rin encouraged softly.

...

The next morning, Mutsuki rose early to teach students in the Southern Border Forest.

Obito practiced Breathing Techniques for Nature Transformation, while Guy and Shisui engaged in combat training. Rin practiced Medical Ninjutsu.

"Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson!"

Obito formed hand seals with his left hand while holding four Kunai in his right hand. With just one seal, he completed the release of Ninjutsu, causing the flaming Kunai to explode small craters on the ground.

"Finally, no more mistakes. Using Ninjutsu with just one hand seal," Obito exclaimed happily.

"Konoha Whirlwind!"

"Konoha Great Whirlwind!"

"Konoha Strong Whirlwind!"

Guy, fully utilizing Stone Breathing, aimed to disrupt Shisui's rhythm with his fierce attacks. Under Guy's immense strength, trees kept falling, with continuous booming sounds. However, Shisui remained calm, constantly employing Body Flicker Jutsu to dodge and wait for an opening in Might Guy's defense.

Watching the chaotic forest, Mutsuki felt they should find a more open area to spar in the future, or else the trees would become sparse.

Mutsuki used Appraisal to check the progress of their Breathing Techniques. Shisui had reached ninety-seven, just three points away from completion, while Guy was at eighty-two, lacking eighteen points in proficiency level.

"I think Obito will win this time," Mutsuki speculated inwardly.

If Obito isn't particularly reckless, it will be difficult for Guy to win against him with his current progress in Breathing Technique. However, it doesn't matter much who wins; their theoretical scores are too average to achieve a perfect grade.
