Who To Blame

Emmy had been praying under his breathe that Alice didn't ask any question and just free him, but he knew it's impossible and that's why he couldn't help but curse, when he heard her first question.

Emmy grew silent for a while thinking of what to say, but before he said anything, Alice faced him and said.

"Mind you, I have lie detector with me, so becareful with what you say."

'Crap, how am I meant to escape this, and Jone is still suffering in that building, only God know how long he can hold.'

Clearing his throat, Emmy speak in a shaky voice.

"Well, it isn't as if I've been robbing for a while and if i am to guess correctly, this is my second, which failed due to your interception." He said.

"So, will you tell me the reason, wait...let me guess, someone more powerful than you sent you? Or you were influenced by people you walk with? Or you joined one of those gangs and they started sending you on a mission? Or you trying to build your courage by robbing so you won't get bullied again? Or you just do it out ofyour own free will." Alice asked staring straight into his eyes which caused Emmy to lower his head.

"None of that." Emmy replied.

"Then what?" Alice asked.

"I want to survive, I only did it because I don't want go through hell and die of hunger, I just want to survive, it's not my fault and not anybody's fault." Emmy said as he was keeping himself from breaking down.

Who would he blame?

All of this started when the book was destroyed by that bastard, which means the root of his problem is that damn man, and since then, Lord Lucifer started torturing him with the system, but as much as he wanted to blame the man and Lord Lucifer he couldn't, if he didn't practice the technique of the book, all of this wouldn't have happened. The blame goes to Jone who had brought the book to him, but he couldn't think of blaming the poor dog who only thought of helping its master, so the only person he can blame is himself who thought of growing stronger by learning the technique in the book. But still, he couldn't blame himself because he was ignorant, he knows nothing about the book, he did not know the power it held, so...

Who should he blame,

His father? Who left him and his mother at home for some stupid job? Or his mother, who neglected him and treat him same as the society does? Or the society herself who treated him like a trash? Or should he blame the government who invented the hierarchy system? Or the ability and strength that determine the rank of people?

No,

There's no one to blame, he just have to strive, get stronger and survive.

Alice starred at him intensely as she notice the emotions building up in him.

"You don't want to die of hunger? You don't get to eat at home?" She asked confused.

"I left home few days ago." He replied with his head still facing down.

"Huh, why? Wait....don't tell me that you feel like an adult now, so you decided to leave home." She said.

"I just wanted to." Emmy replied, and at the same time, a vibrating sound could be heard coming from Alice's pocket.

She frowned and said.

"You see, you can't fool, but I know you have your reason for abandoning your resident, so I'll let that be." She grew silent for a while and then added.

"So, where do you live now, how are you managing to come to school?" She asked.

"I took shelter in an uncompleted building a few miles from here."

"Oh, that explained why I suddenly met you on my street yesterday, can you take me to that building of yours?"

'What is she getting at, take her to the building? Jone is currently in the building. Crap, hope she's not one of those who are obsessed with having Jone.' He thought.

"Huh sure, hmm....can you promise me one thing." He said with a shaky voice.

"If it worth promising." Alice replied indifferent.

"That you won't tell anybody where I live and no matter what you find there, you won't tell any soul on earth." He said with his heart beating faster.

"Well, it depends on what I find, but before we go, I need to get something in the store." She said as she turned around walking towards the store while Emmy was behind her. She's so confident that he couldn't run away.

'Depends of what she found, does that mean, if she sees Jone as a big deal, she'll report me? Damn, I need to do something before it's too late, should I take this chance to run away?'

He couldn't think of the way to get out of this situation and he knew he couldn't outrun her.

'Stay calm, everything will be alright.' He brace himself up and followed her.
