The wizards' magical power levels were not much different from those in the future. However, without the Weave, which acted as a magical compiler and responder, wizards had to expend more magic and rely on their imagination and knowledge to produce magical effects, resulting in extremely low efficiency.
If a Weave could be established and wizards trained properly, their abilities would, while not enough to contend with the likes of godchildren and archangels, reach a level comparable to future Aurors. They could then handle the superficial angel armies without much difficulty.
However, Murphy's creation of the Weave was not solely for the benefit of the wizards.
Like the Rhinegold, the Weave was a crucial part of his forthcoming "Divine Sealing" plan.
The godchildren were skeptical about the Weave's potential to enhance the wizards' power. But when Murphy mentioned that with certain adjustments, the Weave could also significantly boost the power of godchildren and even gods, they finally took an interest and began to inquire about the construction of the Weave.
"The Weave can be seen as a magical amplifier," Murphy explained. "Its construction consists of three main components: first, various types of magical energy, the stronger and more extreme the properties, the better. Second, materials to contain the magic—mithril, adamantine, and other magical metals are examples. Third, rituals to combine these materials and magic into specific structures."
This was the reverse-engineered "artificial Weave" technology from the future timeline, developed by Haldane and Jim Best and their colleagues. But now, Murphy planned to create the actual Weave using this technology.
In fact, by this point, Murphy was almost certain that the "Weave" discovered in the future was something he himself had created.
He couldn't imagine anyone else undertaking such an extensive magical project.
Murphy needed the Weave to complete his plans.
Murphy then outlined the specific steps to create the Weave. First, they needed to produce high-quality magical metals to contain and separate various types of magical energy. The Weave required extremely high standards for magical metals, which the current crafting techniques of the wizards in the camp could not meet.
However, this was not a problem. The wizards had learned their techniques from the fairies, who had, aside from some inherited racial knowledge, gleaned the finest parts of their alchemy from a certain Norse trickster god—Loki. From Loki, they had learned advanced enchanting and smelting techniques used to forge divine artifacts for the Æsir gods.
But with Murphy, the originator of fairy metallurgy, present, there was no concern about the production of magical metals.
Once the magical metals were produced, the next step was to collect various types of magical energy. The godchildren's magic was particularly suitable, as their powers came from their divine parentage, and these gods' magic, derived from their divine roles and nature, exhibited very extreme attributes.
For example, the offspring of a love god would possess strongly enchanting magic, while the children of sea gods would have water-attributed magic.
However, involving the godchildren directly would undermine Murphy's control, so he chose to selectively gather magic from the wizards instead.
In reality, Murphy was not short on various types of magical energy. After Ragnarok, he had collected enough extreme magical energies from the Norse gods to create several Weave nodes. But his goal was not just to create the Weave; he needed to involve the godchildren and the gods behind them, so he left room for their participation.
In the future, once these two steps were completed, the physical construction of the Weave nodes would be done. They would only need to adjust their resonance frequency to match the true Weave to integrate with it.
This Weave node, like a primitive computer with paper tape input/output, could still be used by Murphy to perform operations typically reliant on the Weave, even in its absence.
However, this required a deep understanding of the Weave's essence and extremely advanced magical control techniques. Traversing past and future, it was nearly impossible for anyone other than Murphy to replicate this method.
To transform this Weave node into a tool accessible to all wizards—and thus an enticing trap for the godchildren and gods—Murphy needed to complete the final step: construct a set of operating rules for this magical network, essentially creating a self-running software system.
This system needed to meet the following criteria:
1. Simple interaction, allowing wizards to guide magical effects precisely with brief incantations or gestures.
2. Minimal magical energy consumption, enabling wizards with limited power to cast spells for extended periods.
3. Powerful extensibility, catering to the wizards' creativity and ensuring it could always help them achieve their goals rather than restrict them.
To achieve this, Murphy planned to equip the Weave with a neural network and pre-train it.
This was not difficult. He already had memristor-based neuromorphic chips, a ready-made neural network model, and a vast collection of mature spells and magical paradigms. Using these as a foundation to create a program capable of adapting to most magical scenarios was merely a matter of engineering, with no technical barriers.
Murphy had long had the entire Weave construction plan in his mind, so his explanation was fluent and detailed. However, the godchildren were overwhelmed by his descriptions.
Their limited knowledge and shallow understanding of magic left them unable to grasp the complex magical control techniques Murphy was describing.
One by one, they found it incomprehensible and burdensome. When Murphy mentioned that the construction of the Weave would be entrusted to the wizards who were more familiar with magical technology, they were relieved and eager to avoid the task.
While cursing them for their laziness, Murphy inwardly smirked.
Don't blame me for not giving you a chance. It's not my fault you can't handle it.
They only wanted to delegate the complicated and difficult work to the diligent wizards, hoping to enjoy the results without considering that doing so would make the Weave a technical black box for them.
Murphy would provide them with the most convenient and straightforward user interface but would also leave himself the most concealed and efficient backdoor at the system's core.
This was both a trap and an open strategy.
To magic users, the Weave would be an irresistible tool akin to the advent of computers after the introduction of the Windows operating system, greatly enhancing efficiency.
However, without sufficient knowledge of magic and magical technology, their access to the Weave's functionalities would always remain under Murphy's control.
Moreover, the inherently subjective nature of deities made it impossible for them to attain such in-depth knowledge.
This was an inescapable trap designed to exploit the fundamental flaws of deities.
This was the cage Murphy had prepared for the gods.
