Chin up

*POV* Lexus Franklin

"Are you feeling any better?" Mink asked, as I stumbled into the kitchen to get a drink of water. She and Cassy were sitting up to the kitchen table doing a jigsaw puzzle. "I think so." I say right before downing the half full glass.

My eyes caught the sunlight coming through the partly closed curtains. "How long did I sleep?" I took a chair at the table.

Mink smiled. "About 10 hours or so, it's almost noon." I sighed, I really must have been out of it to sleep away all of yesterday and the morning.

"Oh." I voiced.

"Any word from Stefon?"

"Yeah, he brought Destiny back late last night, but then left again. We haven't seen him today." I nodded, a second passed before Cassy stood going to rummage in the cabinets for a couple minutes.

I hoped Stefon would return soon, I was about to get to my feet when Cassy placed a plate in front of me. It was a simple spread of bread, meat and cheese.

"Eat a little before you go to work." I nodded, wondering how it was possible for her to communicate with me without showing her thoughts, or speaking.

She sat down again, the room was quiet while I ate. Once I was done I smiled, thanking them.

The office was neatly in order like Stefon liked it. Taking a seat in the comfortable chair, I sifted through the few reports that were laid out on the desk.

They were old reports from a couple months ago, I sighed in disappointment. Sitting back in the chair I stared up at the ceiling, my thoughts turned to how life was going to be once we moved worlds.

A light knocking on the door had me standing, the door opened before I could get out of the chair. Stefon entered, frowning as he stepped into the room. "Lexy." I quickly moved forward to meet him. "We have to leave!" I released him from a hug and looked at him.

"What is happening?" I looked up at his face, and he took my hand. "The Rune monsters are headed towards the city, they will be reaching the outskirts in a matter of minutes." I set my jaw and let Stefon lead me from the room.

We were in the valley, the danger would be reaching us soon. When we got into the kitchen, Destiny, Mink and Cassy waited for us. "Let's go!" Stefon told them.

We stepped from the shadows onto the army base. "These are the last couple jet loads of the people, but there are hundreds still in the city." Stefon told me as we headed from the jet. "Are they not coming?" I asked. "You would think they would with the army's of hell coming!" Destiny voiced.

"No." Stefon led us onto one of the big jets packed with people. "They have all made their choice." I clenched my fists, thinking about all those that would end up dead.

The large door was closed, Stefon held me close as the engines roared to life. My stomach lurched as we took off.

Hours later my legs were tired and I was very uncomfortable, I held onto Stefon as Mink rubbed my back. "I hope we land soon." Mink voiced, I was out of it. "She won't last much longer in this condition."

Stefon clenched his jaw.

I awoke to Stefon lifting me to his arms. "Hold on." He said close to my ear, "Are we here?" I asked my voice a whisper.

"Yes." It was dark, I could hear many moving feet around us. Then we were walking into a building then up stairs. "I will get a bath ready." I heard Mink say close to us. I forced my eyes to open as Stefon set me on my feet gently.

I left the small bathroom attached to the large room of the fort, the General's rooms. Stefon sat on the foot of the bed with half a dozen papers laying out beside him. "Feeling better?" He asked looking up.

I clenched the loose shirt I was wearing and nodded. "A lot better." Mink followed me out. "I better go find the others." She gave me a quick hug before leaving the room.

I walked over to stand beside the bed, looking down at the papers which were lists of names and brief information. "Do you think starting over is going to be that easy?"

Stefon stacked up the paper and tossed them onto the floor, he took my hand. "I am not even sure papers can go through." He said, tugging my hand he pulled me close.

"It's not going to be easy." I snort. "Well that makes me feel better." He kissed my hand, "You worry about our angel." One of his hands came to rest on my tummy. "And I will worry about helping our parents and building our new home."

A smile spread across my lips. "Okay."

I pulled away to pick up the papers, sifting through them I picked one out. "Are we categorizing the people by power?" Stefon shifted on the bed. "Yes, you will be surprised how many people have the power to levitate, or fly."

I handed back the papers. "How many are there?" I asked genuinely curious. "About 74." I stared at him. "How many people do we have in the fort?" He shrugged. "46,000 or so."

"Oh my." He stood. "I hope we all fit." He ruffled my hair. "Remember, let me worry about it, you rest." I looked up at him, with a half smirk. "I will try to remember."

He dropped the papers back on the bed and reached for my hand. "Come to bed." I let him pull me and smiled. "Stefon, what if-." He stopped me, his face close to mine. "Let's not think like that." I bit the inside of my mouth.

"But what if this didn't work?" I thought, with despair feeling my chest. "What if something happened to one of us?" Stefon leaned in kissing my cheek.

"Let's keep our chins up, it will work." I looked into his eyes filled with firm determination. "Okay.." I whispered.
