"What are you doing?" I asked as Dr Gray started hooking me up to a bunch of monitors.

"Getting a baseline reading," muttered the doctor. I was honestly surprised that he was doing all this grunt work by himself. I had assumed that he would have a whole bunch of assistants running around doing all the work.

As much as I hated to admit it, I was impressed that he didn't bother with others. The fact that he took his work so seriously that he was willing to do everything himself to ensure all the resulting data was correct earned my respect.

"Shifters tend to run hotter than humans," I started as he pasted a sticker to my forehead before connecting it to a wire. "Your assumption that we only get warmer when we shift is off base."

Doctor Gray paused for a second before returning his attention to connecting me to the monitors.
