Entered But Never Came Out

"Not important," snapped the Commander. I was pretty sure that Doctor Gray had a different opinion, but like the smart little minion that he was, he kept his mouth shut. "What is important is figuring out the de-scenter. I've had my people working on it for months, and they are no closer to figuring it out."

There was a long pause in the room, and I felt someone touching my bare arm. My stomach churned at the contact, but since I didn't have anything in it, nothing came up.

"She's mated," said the female wolf. I could feel her stepping away from me as if I was contagious.

"And?" asked both the Commander and the scientist at the same time. "What does that have to do with the de-scenter?"

"It doesn't," stuttered the wolf. "But it means that she has people looking for her."
