It was weird - as we descended the chambers around us emanated red sparks - one of them landed on my cheek, it wasn't hot, just had this weird sensation. Even as we went deeper darkness enveloped us. I used a spell to allow us to see - yet still that wasn't enough. The darkness was so potent it was impossible to see beyond a couple of feet in front of us.
Yet we continued - the boss chamber was up ahead, but I could easily tell how critters and other creepy things would hide in this massive dungeon. The underdark was something out of this world - and clearly we weren't meant to be here. This was not a place for us. The air around us felt like it would suffocate us.
We landed softly as we reached the ground below us. The Skybreaker came to a full stop with a low roar.
Yet the darkness around us was intense - a chilling fear ran down my spine.
I looked up only to notice a purple hue - it looked like almost like a mist ran through the ceiling above us. This chamber opened up - I didn't know exactly how massive it was, but it felt like it would go on forever.
I wasn't sure what to do next.
What would someone do if they were on my position - I was drawing a blank.
"So what now?" I whispered to Arlsan.
"We light this place up!" He said and drew his hands like he was pulling a string on a bow. Much to my surprise an arrow actually materialized. Was he drawing from the mana pool we had created through our various moments of intimacy?
An fire arrow formed - quickly turning blue. He started sweating from the heat, I had to cover my face - the heat was intense.
He let go of the imaginary string and the arrow flew towards the ceiling - sticking itself on the ceiling.
Instantly the place light up like it was daylight all along - I could finally see the chamber clearly.
It was weird - almost like I had seen this terrain before - except it was different the miasma was ticker here and clearly visible on the floor.
We heard a chilling scream from a distant mountain in this massive chamber and I knew instantly what was going to happen.
The monster that had dived into the underdark and had caused the city above to go into a state of emergency suddenly emerged and rushed towards us.
Except it started shooting massive amounts of lasers at us - they twirled and flew in different random directions towards us.
Arslan reacted quickly and pulled the gas on the Skybreaker - pushing us away from the fire.
With the chamber completely light up I could clearly see the monster in front of us.
It was a massive eyeball even if it had lost some of it's body mass before from the spell I fired, it was still massive occupying the whole chamber from top to bottom.
"We're in a pickle!" Arslan shouted from in front - I could barley hear him, he was maneuvering the lasers at the same time he was evading hazardous terrain.
I could only grab unto his waist.
"You still have that crystal with you?!" He continued.
"Yeah!" I nodded through the situation presented in front us.
"Now would be a good time to use it!" He shouted.
Just like that the eye locked eyes with us, like it found it's target and pierced a laser right at us.
We coudln't evade it in time and it hit the Skybreaker right on it's side, sending us hurling towards the outer walls of the chamber. We skid and fell from the bike but Arslan turned towards me and grabbed me with all of his body, we rolled together as one but he took most of the damage.
The rubble cleared a little bit and we managed to pick ourselves up again.
"You okay?!" I blurted out as he still held me in his arms.
"I'll live -" he said stoically.
I pulled the crystal out of my pocket and showed it to Arslan. Then we both looked at the monster - it was twitching and twirling - writing in pain. Did that attack just managed to deplete most of it 's mana? It seemed that way. |
The crystal was about to activate.
"What's about to happen next - I won't have any control - you have to restrain me," Arslan said.
Not really sure what he meant by that but we stood up, Arslan took a fighting stance in front of me.
"Ready?!" He shouted.
"READY!" I determined.
With that the crystal broke - what happened next was not something I want to relive ever again.
Arslan growled - a deep guttering sound - his clothes started ripping as his muscles became even stronger - and his spine contorted as he hunched over.
[BERSERK MODE HAS BEEN ACTIVATED]
Berserk mode?! What the hell those that mean?! This was new - he should have told me this was going to happen.
He looked back at me and steam came out of his mouth, his teeth had taken the shape of a vampire, or actually they were more like a tiger.
Two upper teeth big enough to pierce into flesh, and the bottom one's sharp enough to sting into any living thing.
His hair was shining brighter than the sun and magic was pouring out of him.
It was ungodly.
His eyes lost all sight of humanity.
It seemed like he was going to attack me, but the monster was recovering and caught his attention. Arslan pounced towards the eyeball monster. I just stood there dumbfounded.
What the hell?! This is not what I signed up for!
Using both arms and legs Arslan gained speed, and went towards the monster in front of us.
A leash appeared in my hands and connected to his neck, it was rapidly un-twirling in my hands.
A thousand questions were running through my hand.
Arslan reached the monster and quickly started slashing at it - his hands were like claws, his nails shining yellow, blood was quickly pilling on the floor and on his face.
He looked like an animal.
How long will this last?
I asked Apollo.
[3 more minutes]
Apollo mentioned.
Arslan then started eating the monster, pushing it on the floor, the monster could only write in pain, it's eye crying like before.
We had won this battle but at what cost?
I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
Madness started creeping in.
Seeing Arslan in this state - it was not normal. None of this was normal.
Was he eating the monster?
Raw flesh and blood - it made my stomach twist in a not and pulled me to the floor - making me vomit.
Just like that the monster was dead - it's flesh already starting to rot.
It seemed Arlsan noticed as he spit some of it out.
Then on two feet he started walking towards me.
He didn't look human - his muscles had gained insane levels of power. His body was deformed akin to that of an animal.
He walked towards me - with eyes of prey - like he wanted to eat me.
I didn't know what to do.
[The leash should be enough to control him]
I pulled on it and he defied it but it seemed to calm him down.
I don't want this.
I pushed again and Arslan fell on the floor - using his feet to kick at me but I was barley pulling on it and he was already throwing a tantrum.
His growls became whimpers - like a sad dog. He tried to escape me but the leash was strong enough to hold him down. I stood up still holding a tight hand on the leash.
"Arslan please!" I said pleading. He just looked at me with puppy dog eyes and he stood there.
I got close to him - slowly creeping on him - almost like I was going to pet him. Before my hand could reach his hand, he scratched me.
The wound was deep on my hand. It actually hurt.
"STOP!" I commanded and pulled on the leash, it was short now - short enough to pull at him from his neck. He squirmed and tried to take it off - but couldn't - the leash was magic and I was in control.
[BERSERK MODE HAS ENDED] Apollo announced.
Thank god.
Arslan just fainted to the ground - his body went back to normal and he looked human again, his hair regained the normal died fantasy color.
his breathing also went back to normal.
I couldn't help but fall to my knees and start crying.
"You should have told me - you idiot! Why did you solo the boss?!" I said in between tears.
His eyes started opening and he slowly stood up.
He shook his head like a dog shaking water from it's fur.
He was back to normal.
"What happened? I don't remember the past 15 minutes or so - " said Arslan as he looked around.
I sniffled.
"Why are you crying?" I couldn't help but throw myself around his neck and sobbed into shoulder.
"You idiot!" I said in between sniffled.
"You're such and idiot, a complete moron, a total buffoon, a monkey, nothing but a brain dead stupid warrior," I said punching his chest with all my might yet he didn't even flinch.
"Why the hell did you do that?! Why the hell didn't you tell me that was going to happen?! Did you know you were gonna go berserk?!" I shouted snot drizzling down my nose.
He paused.
"I did," he mentioned.
Another pause as I looked away having a hard time making eye contact with him.
Silent tears just streamed down my face.
But he picked up my face and gently moved it so my eyes were meeting him.
"Love - "he started. "I thought you already knew that - it's in the name," he couldn't help himself and just brightly smiled. That smile I so adored and was the bane of my existence.
"But still - why didn't you tell me?"
"Would you have broken the crystal if you knew what was going to happen?" He stated.
"No - " I whimpered.
"That's why I did it - because I didn't want a repeat of last time - " he said dashingly.
"Remember how this works?" He continued.
"You're the one with the giant pools of mana - I'm just you're commander," he said.
"I wish that wasn't true - " I mentioned.
He smirked and ran his finger through his nose.
There was a beat.
"Honestly I'm surprised you haven't asked me to be a heart for you -" he said out of the blue.
I gave him a playful push and he laughed it off.
The tension was lifted - he was really good at doing things like that - breaking my anxiety like a butter knife.
"FIne - I'm sorry I said all those insults -" I finally managed to pick myself up and stand on my two feet.
"Next time - we only use berserk mode if it's absolutely necessary," I extended my hand. He took it. And I helped him up.
"Fine by me - and don't worry love - I've heard worse -" he leaned down and met my lips with his.
We shared a kiss on the battlefield.
