Chapter 15: My Trust For My Mate Part 2

I want to struggle and run away, but he exudes that aura of kindness and warmth the Kerigore pack is known for.

So I give in.

He places his hands on my wounds, and at once, the pain subsides, and I can feel my wounds closing, ever so slowly.

When every wolf gives us the privacy Elias demanded, he takes my side, but I shift, giving him ample space to be by his side.

As, what I believe is fear, has settled into my heart.

"Abigail..."

"She tried to kill me...and, and..." I mean to talk about her tattoo, and my mother and brother, but then, I remember him. "Why..." I pause, a result of the pain emanating from my yet-to-be-closed wounds. "You, you were there, on that day." I say, I don't know why I said it, but I just felt I had to.

He freezes, eyes sunken.

"So you were there." I wince, the wounds keep biting at me, despite this Kerigore wolf's best efforts.

Elias still says nothing, now the look on his face is that of contemplation.

"Elias." I call out, pulling his attention. "What happened that day?"

"What happened? You don't remember what happened?"

"No, I don't remember. What happened to my family?" I ask, my throat becoming sore.

I need to know what happened to them, but also, I need to know why he was there, and what he has to do with all of this.

But, I don't want to hear, that he had a hand in it.

Else, whatever semblance I have of myself, will be destroyed.

"Abigail." He reaches for my hand, but I shiver away.

He stares into my eyes, finally catching the fear in them.

"You don't have to fear me. I would never hurt you. You're my mate." He speaks with that gentle voice I knew was him from the get-go.

But despite his efforts, I can't bring myself to trust him.

"Your cohort tried to kill me Elias."

"She acted on her own, I swear I had nothing to do with it. She will be adequately punished..."

"Shouldn't such a crime be punishable by death?"

"It isn't that..."

*BOOM* explodes in the distance.

Voices instantly rise, and struggle along with a faint smell of blood permeates the air.

I intend to ask what just happened, but before I can, Elias rises, peering beside the crate we three are behind, and then freezing in place.

The struggle continues, and the voices turn to screams and growls.

I can hear slashes, crashes, and more booms.

But what leaves me on edge, is the smell of blood growing stronger.

Elias rushes over to.

"We have to go." He says, pulling me close and lifting me off the ground. "You, get out of here, now." He says to the Kerigore wolf, as his eyes turn gold, and his teeth grow.

"What is going on?" I ask, my heart becoming all the more restless.

"Darius." That one word ceases every vital organ within me, and at once, I go cold

Darius, Darius is here.

Elias heads in a different direction than the exit that was before us, I wonder why he didn't just use that exit, but as I peer in that direction, I find the crate we were just sitting behind explode in a plume of fire.

"Ruth!" He yells, startling me the more.

My head pulls at me, then, I start to wonder what Darius will do should if he sees me here.

As I continue to be afraid, a shadow rises up from beside us, and that wolf is back.

*BOOM* another crate goes up in flames.

I watch the red, gold, and mild blue dance around this warehouse. And, for a split second, when we pass a row of crates, with a slight opening, I see Darius.

Half turned, eyes shining bright gold, with flames swirling in his hands.

He, he is a monster.

"You have to take her." He says to the wolf he referred to as Ruth, which makes me very uneasy.

"I should do what?" She says.

"Don't question me."

"Alpha, we can end all of this right here right now."

I wonder to myself what she is on about, but I haven't the strength to ask, the wounds were not completely healed, and I've lost too much blood.

He bares his fangs at her, and she backs off.

We stop running, then he lays me beside another crate.

"We're far enough." He says as he rummages through his jacket.

A second later, he produces an item, a wooden carving of a bird, which he hands over to me.

He places it in my hands and wraps my fingers around it.

"Keep this safe, don't let anyone see it." He says to me, but before I can ask, the wolf named Ruth interrupts.

"Alpha, what are you doing?"

"Ruth!" He growls at her, then he turns to me. "Listen very carefully Abigail. I promise to explain everything that happened that day. But for now, I want you to know I can and will never harm you, you are my mate, and I love you with every fiber of my being." He caresses my face, and all of a sudden, I wish he would do that forever.

"Keep the totem safe." He gently squeezes my hand, my hand holding the item he gave me. "And no matter what, do not tell Darius or anyone about it. I swear to reveal everything to you when the time is right." He says, staring deep into my eyes, or, my soul.

Then he leans in and locks his lips with mine.

The kiss is filled with passion and love, but, it lasts only for a second, then he pulls away.

"Now go...."

*BOOM*

The crate beside us explodes and is sent flying into the wall.

"Go now." Elias leaves my side and heads over to the direction the flame came from.

I don't want him to leave, but what can I do?

The wolf named Ruth leans in, then she callously grabs my arms.

"Hold your breath." She says, as shadows climb up my legs, and start to spread throughout my entire body.

I turn towards the direction Elias walked away, but contrary to what I had hoped, I don't see him.

Just flames and smoke.

Then, it all goes black, and I can't breathe.
