Chapter 427: Truth and Confusion

At this moment, Harry Osborn was both excited and worried. He had finally found a clue about Norman Osborn, but if it was indeed Norman, why was he hiding in a secret chamber and coughing? Could something have happened to him?

Despite his worries, Harry didn't slow down. Finding the secret chamber mechanism wasn't about physical strength; it required analysis and recalling Norman Osborn's past actions to deduce where the mechanism might be.

After some attempts, Harry successfully found a book that Norman Osborn had never read, yet it was dust-free. This made Harry instinctively pull it out.

"Creak, creak, creak!" The book was difficult to pull out, and simultaneously, the bookshelf beside him began to creak. A dark underground passage appeared before Harry. He took a deep breath, pulled out a handgun from his waist, and cautiously ventured inside.

Even though he suspected that his father, Norman Osborn, might be hiding down there, Harry brought the handgun for self-defense, hoping nothing unexpected would happen.

In the secret chamber, Norman Osborn wasn't wearing the Green Goblin armor; it was set aside. He was checking his body after being kicked away by Peter Parker. Though he hadn't fallen off the Goblin Glider, Peter's kick was powerful.

When dealing with ordinary criminals, Peter Parker held back his strength. After all, if he killed them on the spot, it would be difficult to explain. But against Norman Osborn, it was different. Norman had shown the ability to ignore bullets, and energy weapons posed a significant threat. Therefore, Peter didn't hold back much when he kicked him. Despite the Green Goblin armor's shock absorption and defense, and Norman's now superhuman physique, he was still seriously injured.

"Why is Spider-Man so powerful? Could I have been wrong? Is this Spider-Man not the result of our company's technology?" Norman Osborn muttered while treating his injuries. After being defeated by Peter Parker, Norman became more rational, even starting to analyze things.

He had no choice. Even with his personality change, Norman realized he couldn't defeat Peter Parker. Without understanding Peter's situation, completing his plans was impossible.

Despite his change, Norman felt he had broken the family curse and restored his body to normal. However, his son Harry was still sickly and untreated. Thus, Norman couldn't give up on fighting Peter Parker.

Norman didn't dare to bet that Harry could withstand the serum and didn't want Harry to become like him—a man filled with violent thoughts, with only a shred of goodness left. Harry deserved a bright future.

"Father?!" A voice of disbelief echoed in the chamber. It was Harry Osborn, the person Norman had been thinking about.

Harry had been cautious and silent after entering the chamber, but upon seeing Norman, he couldn't help but cry out. The sight of Norman and his words about dealing with Spider-Man shocked Harry.

Before coming to the chamber, Harry had just seen news about the Green Goblin on TV. Now, he saw the Green Goblin armor and heard Norman talking about fighting Spider-Man.

Harry was confused. His father had wealth and status—why become a criminal? Becoming a criminal wouldn't benefit Norman, so was it because of Spider-Man?

"Harry, you actually came…" Norman's first instinct upon hearing the noise was to kill the intruder. But fortunately, he quickly realized it was his son, so he took a deep breath to calm himself and avoid attacking Harry.

"Father, what's going on? Why are you the Green Goblin? Is this why you disappeared?" Harry and Norman didn't have a great relationship. Harry grew up under Norman's strict rule, viewing Norman as a stern figure who prioritized the company over his family.

Harry couldn't understand why Norman would abandon the company to become a criminal. What did Norman gain from becoming the Green Goblin?

"Green Goblin? That's a pretty good name…" Norman's eyes flashed with a hint of excitement but quickly calmed down. He sighed, "You want to know why?"

Norman knew that finding other excuses was pointless. Harry had grown up, and his health was deteriorating. It was time to tell him the truth.

Norman began explaining the Osborn family's hereditary disease, his efforts to cure it, his weakening body, and his eventual injection of the serum to become the Green Goblin, seeking Spider-Man's blood for research.

Upon learning about the hereditary disease, Harry realized why his health had always been poor. Hearing about Norman's efforts to cure it and the stolen results angered him.

When he heard that Norman had no choice but to inject the serum and become the Green Goblin to find a cure, Harry's eyes reddened with anger towards Spider-Man. He didn't know if Spider-Man was the product of their experiments, but his father getting hurt by Spider-Man made him resent the hero. After all, Norman attacked Spider-Man for his sake.

"Father, if you can't defeat Spider-Man, let me inject the serum…" Harry's eyes flashed as he spoke softly.

Harry didn't want Norman to fight Spider-Man anymore. The previous battles showed that Norman was no match for Spider-Man, and trying to get his blood was too difficult.

Harry didn't want Norman to get hurt or die at Spider-Man's hands, so he suggested injecting the serum himself, hoping to cure his health and prevent Norman from continuing as the Green Goblin.

"No!" Norman refused decisively. After experiencing the serum's effects, he wouldn't let Harry go through the same. The serum had deadly side effects, and Norman didn't believe Harry could withstand the mental changes.

"Why, father…" Harry wanted to argue but fell silent under Norman's intense gaze. It wasn't just fear of his father's authority but a primal fear as if facing a demon from hell.

"See? The name Green Goblin is fitting; I'm practically a demon now!" Norman sighed. "This is the serum's side effect. Even if you survive, you might end up like me. I won't let you inject it unless it's a last resort."

"Honestly, I feel more evil than a demon. If not for my last bit of concern for you…"

"Demon?" Harry thought Norman was being metaphorical but sensed something was off.

"You've been sheltered. Demons do exist. Our latest serum version tried to eliminate these side effects from them but failed…" Norman shook his head.

"Rest assured, once I recover, I'll return to the company to stabilize things for you. But then I need to find a way to deal with Spider-Man. I won't be managing the company anymore. That will be your responsibility."

"Me? But I'm just starting college…" Harry felt confused and hesitant. Despite understanding his father's efforts, he wasn't ready to take on Norman's responsibilities.

"If everything allowed you time to prepare, things would be perfect!" Norman said sternly. "You need to start learning to manage the company now. Don't worry, I won't act against Spider-Man until I'm confident. Now, leave."

"I understand…" Harry, still dazed, nodded and left. His confusion lingered even after returning to school.

"Harry? Harry!" In the cafeteria, Peter Parker called out to the daydreaming Harry. "No news about your uncle? You've been distracted since you arrived…"

"No, it's not… well…" Harry didn't know how to tell Peter. Norman had returned, but not as expected. He was also embarrassed to admit his father had become the Green Goblin, a supervillain.

Harry didn't know that Peter was also searching for Norman, having asked JARVIS for help and looking during his patrols.

Had Peter known Clark could scan the entire world, he would have asked Clark for help. The result would have surprised Peter…

Now, seeing Harry's unusual state, Peter felt worried and guilty. It wasn't because he knew the Goblin's identity but because, despite being Spider-Man and helping many, he still couldn't solve his best friend's problems. Peter realized he still had much room for growth.
