Unfortunately, Luke didn't want Jocelyn to know what he was up to, but his words weren't enough to dispel her doubts. Jocelyn wasn't suspecting Luke and the werewolves of their actions against humans; rather, she was simply suspicious that Luke might be cheating on her...
Thus, when Luke left again that evening, Jocelyn decided to follow him. As a former shadow hunter, Jocelyn had some skills, which had allowed her to survive under Valentine's rule for so long.
Truth be told, Luke's abilities weren't that impressive. Though werewolves had decent senses, they weren't particularly adept at detecting magical forces, so Luke didn't realize Jocelyn was trailing him.
"Chief!"
"Boss!"
Luke, exhausted, soon met up with his subordinates, who were noticeably more excited than he was.
Before they started fighting back against the Avengers, Luke's subordinates lived hidden among ordinary people, leading rather unsatisfactory lives. They weren't even doing well by normal human standards.
Additionally, they constantly had to hide their identities. Even if they got into conflicts, they couldn't reveal themselves, which was incredibly frustrating.
But things were different now. Having recently shed blood, ambushing and killing ordinary people, the werewolves had awakened the ferocity in their bloodlines, sweeping away the frustrations of their previous lives.
"Sigh..." Seeing the vicious expressions and bloodthirsty aura of his formerly gentle subordinates, Luke felt a pang of helplessness.
Luke had no other options. The Avengers were hunting werewolves and vampires, and there was no solution to their plight. Now, with werewolves and vampires banding together against humans, if Luke and his group didn't follow orders, they faced a cruel and terrifying death. Both the Avengers and their own kind wouldn't spare them.
Even though Luke knew that continuing this path meant certain death for him and his subordinates, he still clung to the hope of living another day, believing that perhaps some opportunity might arise.
"Alright, let's go!" With this in mind, Luke adjusted his mindset, nodded to his subordinates, and set off with them.
"Was I wrong? He hasn't betrayed me? Fine, I'll keep watching..." Jocelyn, seeing Luke leave with his subordinates, hesitated but decided to follow, thinking that taking along subordinates didn't necessarily mean he wasn't up to something.
Soon, under Jocelyn's watchful eyes, Luke's subordinates dispersed one by one, leaving him wandering alone on the dark streets, seemingly aimless, which puzzled Jocelyn even more.
Just as Jocelyn was about to step out and confront Luke, one of his subordinates returned, now in werewolf form, with blood on his claws and even blood stains around his mouth and teeth.
"Sigh... You've been eating people again?" Luke asked quietly, sighing in resignation.
"We're all going to die anyway. What's wrong with eating them? We're not human; humans are just our food!" the subordinate retorted dismissively, looking at Luke with some dissatisfaction. "Chief, why bother with that pointless mercy?"
"Besides, do you think the Avengers will spare us if we don't attack humans? Some of the werewolves they killed were as honest as we were. Did the Avengers spare them? No! So why should we care?"
"If it weren't for the risk of exposure from prolonged killing, I'd want to go on a rampage in broad daylight!"
"True... It seems no matter what we do, the result is the same," Luke said, his eyes flashing as he looked at his excited subordinate, who dared to speak loudly to him now.
Previously, his subordinates wouldn't have dared speak to him like this. They respected him as their leader and feared his superior strength and bloodline suppression.
But things had changed. Luke's perceived weakness and the awakening of his subordinates' ferocity had diminished their fear of him. If they weren't still weaker than him, many would likely have rebelled.
"Killing? What's going on?" Jocelyn, overhearing their conversation, was stunned. She couldn't believe that Luke had been leading his subordinates in hunting humans.
As a former shadow hunter, Jocelyn had spilled blood, but the people Luke and his subordinates killed were innocent civilians. She couldn't accept that, especially since she thought she and Luke were living a normal life after Valentine's defeat. She had no desire to return to the supernatural world, let alone see Luke committing such grave sins.
Even though she had left the supernatural world, Jocelyn knew the consequences of killing innocent people, especially with the Avengers' reputation. She didn't think Luke and his subordinates stood a chance against the Avengers, not to mention the presence of Superman.
Jocelyn panicked, her concealment faltering, causing Luke to suddenly realize someone was nearby. However, recognizing Jocelyn's aura, he calmed down and pretended not to notice.
If Jocelyn were exposed, it would be troublesome. Luke's subordinate might seize the opportunity to attack, and Luke couldn't bring himself to harm Jocelyn or his subordinate. So he chose to act oblivious.
His subordinate, being less skilled, didn't notice Jocelyn and was instead eager to continue hunting humans, having become addicted to the thrill of controlling life and death.
"Chief!"
"Chief!"
"Boss!"
At that moment, several werewolves returned, bloodstained. Only one still addressed Luke as "Boss," while the others simply called him "Chief."
"It's time to go back. We'll change locations tomorrow night. The longer we avoid exposure, the better," Luke instructed, waving his hand with a touch of despondency.
"I know some of you are addicted, but you must control yourselves. Staying too long in one place will lead to bad outcomes. Many werewolves and vampires have recently died. The Avengers have more people than we thought."
"Got it!" his subordinates agreed after a moment of silence. Whether they truly understood was uncertain. Luke could only offer limited help, and this was one of his few warnings.
Soon, his subordinates left, and Luke wandered into a dark alley, seemingly waiting for something.
"Luke! What's going on?" Jocelyn appeared, glaring at Luke. "Didn't you say you'd live a normal life with me? What are you doing? Killing? Hunting humans? Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
"Sigh! I have no choice. Even if we don't attack humans, we won't survive..." Luke sighed, explaining the Avengers' hunt for vampires and werewolves and their retaliation methods.
"This... how could it be? They can't kill all vampires and werewolves, can they? Can't you just hide?" Jocelyn's anger faded, understanding that Luke and the others were forced to fight for survival.
If the Avengers decided to exterminate all shadow hunters, Jocelyn would resist too. No living being can face imminent death without reacting.
"Some of those killed were living quietly as humans, but they still died. It's not about hiding. The Avengers can find us, so we have no other options..." Luke shook his head, looking at Jocelyn seriously.
"I didn't want you to know. Maybe if I disappeared one day, you'd get used to life without me. But now you know, so this is my farewell. Let's part ways..."
"No! I won't..." Jocelyn started to protest but felt a sharp pain in her head and lost consciousness.
Under the night sky, Luke carried Jocelyn home, gently laying her on the bed. He took a deep look at her, sighed deeply, and left the home he was reluctant to part with.
"No!" Sometime later, Jocelyn awoke, realizing where she was and rushed out, searching for Luke, but he was nowhere to be found.
"Clarice! The Guardians! Right, I still have them!" Jocelyn quickly left the house with new resolve.
Meanwhile, the Avengers faced new obstacles, not from the vampires and werewolves, but from the dark supernatural world.
The vampire leader's bounty wasn't a lie. The wealth he gathered came from various vampire branches in Europe.
This substantial bounty attracted many, especially those in the dark supernatural world who resented the Avengers' public recognition while they remained hidden.
This combination of hatred and wealth led to numerous attacks on the Avengers, particularly on Peter Parker, a frequently visible superhero.
"Deadpool?! A bounty on the Avengers? How dare they?" In a bar, Deadpool, having rested and ready to earn money, saw the bounty and was shocked. He knew the Avengers' strength well.
Though normal Avengers weren't much stronger than the dark supernatural beings, heroes like Clark Kent and Robert could wipe out the entire dark supernatural world if they found them.
To Deadpool, such a bounty seemed insane, but then he realized something...
"Wait! If they're targeting the Avengers, this could be my chance to make money! The Avengers might not know these dark supernatural beings, but I do. I could profit from this and even play double agent..."
Excited by the prospects, Deadpool didn't care about the potential hit to his reputation. After all, what reputation did he have to worry about?
