The Hero is Awake

"Come in."

"Hey boss, Frostburn is awake. He seems a little panicked."

"I will come see him. Thank you, Everett."

"Would you like me to come with you?"

"No, it's fine." I stand up from my desk and put Luckus' file on my desk, I walk to the infirmary. I look over the beds and see no one. My doctor, Dr. Sanna walks out of one of the closed off rooms.

"Hello sir, I'm assuming you are here for Frostburn."

"Yes, Dr. Sanna. How is he?"

"You did a number on him. Most of his bones are broken, by the looks of it his fingers started to freeze, and he has a ton of past injuries that look like they have been ignored."

"Does no one take care of that kid?"

"He is awake, I can tell him you are here."

"There is no need to. Leave a list for what he needs next to his bed whenever you can get it around."

"Yes, sir."

I walk into the room Luckus is in, the room is warmer than outside of the room. He is wearing a hospital gown, he was looking down when he looked up at me he seemed confused.

"You aren't wearing your normal clothes."

"My normal clothes?"

"Ya, the ones I normally see you in."

"I don't always wear that outfit, just when I want to do, well, villain things."

"Oh, so what is going on?"

"I'm going to take care of you till you have healed and then deal with the gods that sent you here, even though this is a job for an adult to handle. You will not be going to school, I have already seen a note to your school. However I didn't say anything about this issue. Now, how are you?"

"I have been better."

"Does anything hurt too badly?"

"My back."

"Sit up."

"Why?"

"So I can look at the damage." He sits up and faces his back towards me.

"I'm going to move the gown so it is out of the way, ok?"

"Ok."

Seeing his back is wrapped I remove the bandages. Looking at his back it is covered in bruises. By the looks of it there is a support beam on this spin to keep it straight.

"Try not to lay on your back too much." I go to get new bandages and rewrap his back.

"Why?"

"Why, what?"

"Why are you doing this?"

"Because I took both your father and the last two years of your childhoods from you. Not only that but have you seen the state of you are in now, I am surprised you have recovered this well. After all, you were asleep for almost two days."

"I was?"

"Yep, your body needs time to recover and sleep helps more than you might think."

"What about after I help, then what?"

"Well you can continue as if nothing happened or come with me. I don't care what choice you choose and you don't need to pick now."

"Come with you?"

"To the gods that sent you."

"Why?"

"Why don't we have a story time?" I pull up one of the chairs beside the bed, I pull it right next to the bed and sit.

"How will that answer my question?"

"You will see. Now are you ready to listen because this might take a while."

"Yes, I think."
