Navigating the Social Labyrinth

As the banquet commenced, Ethan Montgomery made his way to the stage, leaving Avery Miller to fend for herself among the attendees. 

A waiter approached her with a glass of red wine, mentioning it was a gift from a lady not far to the left. 

Avery's gaze followed the direction indicated by the waiter, landing on a group of elegantly dressed girls who were all smiling in her direction, their amusement clear as if she were a jest.

Among them, one girl raised her glass towards Avery, her smile bright and sincere, suggesting she was the one who had sent the wine. 

Avery, wanting to show her gratitude, smiled back. Yet, with an abundance of drinks available, she pondered the need for such a personal gesture.

Turning away, Avery was about to sip the wine but set it down, feigning interest in the desserts displayed on the table instead. She opted for the assortment of pastries nearby.
