Helpless She

Her voice faded amidst her sobs, her head buried in her hands, shoulders trembling ceaselessly as she cried like a helpless, desperate child. 

 

Ethan Montgomery brought the car to a halt, the tires screeching from the abrupt stop, the road dark and deserted, surrounded by bushes that made the scene eerily desolate.

 

His lips pressed firmly together, he stared into the darkness ahead, his stoic face unyielding, fingers whitening as they gripped the steering wheel tightly.

 

"I hate her! I utterly despise her!" she suddenly lifted her head, her eyes blazing with an intensity of hatred he found unfamiliar.

 

"She destroyed my home, my life; I loathe her!" Her voice shook with desperate loathing.

 

He pulled her into his embrace, his chin resting on her trembling head, holding her quivering, despair-ridden body close.
