Almost all the maids had been dismissed, leaving the garden unattended, overgrown with weeds and flowers wilting across the ground. 

 

Avery Miller found herself where Mr. Bennett used to keep his gardening tools, picking up a delicate hoe to clear the unwanted foliage from the yard. 

 

Upon reaching the flower bed cherished by Ethan Montgomery, she noticed an absence of weeds. 

 

The vibrant flowers seemed immune to decay, blooming brilliantly and swaying in the wind as if mocking her with a flamboyant smile.

 

Circumventing them, Avery moved to another area to weed around the daisies. 

 

"They're just a bit peculiar, a bit rare. What's there to be proud of?" she vented her frustration on Ethan's prized flowers. 

 

"One day you'll wither and fade, and then he won't love you anymore." But then she paused, reconsidering.
