Avery Miller had braced herself for a lengthy interrogation and didn't expect to return to school before nightfall. 

Surprisingly, before they even reached the police station, the plainclothes officer accompanying her received a call from his superior.

"Yes… yes…" After several affirmatives, he hung up and instructed the driver to pull over, then turned to Avery, "Ms. Miller, we apologize for the inconvenience. We'll take you back now."

Avery was still processing what had just happened when the police car turned around and headed back in the direction they came from.

Stepping out of the car, Avery was still puzzled by the turn of events, especially how the officers suddenly treated her with great respect before driving away.

Standing there, watching the police car disappear, she couldn't help but wonder if Ethan Montgomery had something to do with it.
