Illusions of Heartache

The doctor was careful while applying the medicine due to the extensive abrasions, but inevitably touched spots that caused Avery acute pain. She buried her face in the pillow, emitting soft hisses of pain, careful not to be too loud.

It seemed Avery's luck was truly dreadful. Not only was she suffering from a fever, but now she had also been inexplicably knocked to the ground. And the person who hit her, had they been trained? Their strength was astonishing.

It was clear the doctor was not experienced with this sort of treatment; her dissatisfaction was apparent, leading Avery to suspect she had been hastily called in from another department.

As the treatment continued, the doctor's hand grew heavier, and Avery couldn't help but cry out, "Please, can you be a little gentler? It really hurts!"
