Perhaps crying out all the pain buried deep within her heart would grant her some relief. Avery Miller had been keeping all her emotions bottled up these past few days, speaking to no one and aimlessly lost in her thoughts. At first, after waking up from her ordeal, she seemed fine, but as days passed, she became more silent and withdrawn.

 

The nourishing broth Mr. Yamada had the maid bring over was barely touched; she only managed a few sips after Derek Mason's earnest persuasion. Eventually, she would spit out each mouthful, prompting Mr. Yamada to dismiss the servants, unable to watch her suffer any longer.

 

Her face grew increasingly gaunt, and Derek Mason's heart ached every time he saw her, yet he said nothing, offering only a gentle, soothing smile.
