Avery Miller couldn't believe her eyes as she threw back the covers...

The bed was clean and undisturbed. She leaned in and sniffed, detecting no unusual odors.

Had he changed the sheets?

Exhaustion overwhelmed her as she looked at her disheveled body, feeling an immense sense of despair.

"Ethan Montgomery, I'm so sorry!" she whispered, burying her face in her hands and collapsing onto the bed.

Tears streamed down her cheeks uncontrollably, despite her efforts to hold them back. Her body shook with silent sobs, making her seem like a small, helpless creature.

"You're awake?"

The door suddenly opened, and the man who had been shouting outside walked in. He was dressed in pajamas, clearly having just woken up, despite his earlier outburst. His face still bore signs of fatigue, indicating he had been roused by the commotion outside.
