Chapter 19: Mutant Zombies

At this particular moment, Ye Fan found himself pondering whether these two sisters were the kind of dragons who enjoyed collecting treasures. There was no denying the fact that their restaurant had raked in substantial profits.

The jewelry within the box held a value that, by previous standards, would easily reach into the millions, with the jadeite material being particularly precious according to Ye Fan's current system. He estimated the box to be worth at least five hundred gold, a significant temptation for someone eager to save money for building a radar.

If it had been anyone else, Ye Fan would have accepted the treasures without hesitation. However, a lingering sense of guilt resided in his heart, stemming from his recent gluttonous exploits. As someone on the blacklist of nearby buffets, he couldn't easily dismiss the feeling of remorse for indulging in such excess.

The generous little girl handed the box directly to Ye Fan, urging, "Brother, just accept it. It's the end of the world, we are all going to die, and this thing is worthless. As long as you can save my sister, this little thing is nothing."

Ye Fan, despite his internal struggle, nodded in acknowledgment. "Well, since you are so sincere, I will accept it."

He discreetly stowed the box into his commander's bag without converting the gold in front of others, realizing that, despite his reluctance, the treasures would serve a crucial purpose in achieving their goals.

Curious about the whereabouts of the little girl's sister and the lack of zombies, Ye Fan inquired, "Where is your sister? Why didn't I see anyone else or zombies when I came here?"

The little girl explained, "They were all blocked by those overturned buses. On the other side of the bus was the rest of the small fishing village. There was a police station at the end of the road. When the disaster broke out, people panicked, and the living scattered in all directions. Many sought refuge at the police station, but the police turned into zombies. They had no choice but to flee to the last hotel, where they were trapped by zombies."

Acknowledging the situation, Ye Fan reassured, "Okay, since that's the case, then we have our duty. Don't be afraid, little girl. That's good. We are all hungry too. Can you cook? Can you help us get something to eat? We will act when we are full."

The little girl eagerly agreed, "No problem, my sister and I own restaurants. We have always prepared our own food and can cook everything."

As the soldiers helped clean up the place, the little girl began preparing a meal for Ye Fan and the others. With the aroma of food wafting through the air, the atmosphere lightened, and the soldiers eagerly anticipated a satisfying meal.

As they feasted, Xu Haoran approached Ye Fan, "Sir, I'm going to investigate the situation over there."

"Okay, go ahead and report back in time if there is any news," Ye Fan instructed. Xu Haoran, accompanied by Xiaotian, ventured out to gather intelligence.

Seizing the opportunity, Ye Fan went to a corner and retrieved the jewelry. Upon contact, Nana promptly delivered her analysis, "I found rare metal gems, which can be converted into system money. Do you want to convert them?"

"Transformation," Ye Fan commanded.

"Succeeded in transformation and obtained 690 money," Nana responded. Delighted by the unexpected increase in funds, Ye Fan's total gold now stood at 820.

Including the more than 100 gold he had before, he now had a substantial amount. Though tempted to use it immediately, Ye Fan decided to save it. When he reached 5,000, he could unlock new buildings and open the radar.

At this moment, Nana interrupted, "Sir, Scout Xu Haoran requests you to enter his perspective."

"Cut in," Ye Fan directed.

The perspective shifted to Xu Haoran's side, revealing the situation on the other side of the small fishing village. A large group of zombies, numbering at least seven or eight hundred, wandered around a restaurant.

Ye Fan was surprised by the sheer number of zombies. Observing the scene more closely, he noticed a peculiar feature—distinct gender distribution among the zombies. On one side, more male zombies stood taller than the others, with a particularly massive figure among them. The evolved zombie's presence heightened Ye Fan's concern.

"Xu Haoran, night vision device!" Ye Fan instructed.

After donning the night vision goggles, Xu Haoran reported, "Sir, there are at least seven or eight hundred zombies. It's difficult to snipe the evolved zombie from here. If we had a sniper rifle, it would be feasible, but using a silent firearm won't be effective. It might scare the snake away."

Acknowledging the limitations, Ye Fan decided to postpone action until the next day. "Get back first. We'll have dinner soon, rest after dinner, and take action during the day tomorrow."

"Clear," Xu Haoran responded, and they returned to the hotel.

That night, the soldiers rested, and Ye Fan couldn't shake off the pressure of dealing with the massive zombie horde. In his dreams, he strategized, realizing the need for a well-thought-out plan.

By eight o'clock the next morning, Su Chang, the little girl, prepared a hearty meal. Meat buns, porridge, and side dishes adorned the table. Ye Fan, appreciating the effort, savored the meal, though he found it increasingly challenging to swallow the food he once enjoyed.

Post-meal, Ye Fan instructed the soldiers to maintain and sort their firearms, subtly stalling for time as he waited for the bullet count to refresh.

After delaying until late morning, Ye Fan led the team out, determined to face the challenge of dealing with the substantial zombie horde, driven by the promise of potential treasures within their grasp.
