Unexpected Morning

Chapter: 3

The Next Day

I yawned as I woke, sitting up on my bed. The morning light streamed through the window, casting a warm glow over the room. I rubbed my eyes, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep, and then froze when I noticed something out of place. Uriel was lying next to me, her small form nestled comfortably on my pillow.

"Did she not leave yesterday? Oh well."

Carefully, I picked her up, trying not to disturb her, and walked into the bathroom. I placed her gently on the sink counter and started my morning routine. As I brushed my teeth, I glanced at her sleeping form in the mirror, wondering if this was going to be a regular occurrence. After rinsing my mouth, I tapped her lightly.

"Hey, Uriel, time to wake up," I said softly.

Uriel stirred, her tiny wings fluttering as she slowly opened her eyes. She blinked a few times, then looked up at me with a sleepy smile.

"Good morning, Horraine," she said, her voice still groggy.

"Morning. You slept here all night?" I asked.

Uriel nodded, stretching her arms and wings. "Yes, I had no reason to return to Heaven. Is it a problem?" she asked, tilting her head.

I chuckled, shaking my head. "No. But maybe next time, let me know if you're planning to stay over."

"Of course," Uriel replied with a yawn. "I'll remember that."

I finished my morning routine and headed to the kitchen to make breakfast while Uriel stayed in my room. I hummed in thought as I checked over my stats.

"Hmm, I need to up my training for the upcoming four months, or else it's going to be a problem."

Five minutes later, I had whipped up a simple breakfast of eggs and toast. As I set the table, Uriel fluttered into the kitchen, her tiny form looking much more awake now.

"This looks lovely, Horraine. May I join you?" she asked, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

"Of course," I replied, sliding a small plate in front of her. "Do you even eat human food?"

Uriel smiled. "I can, but it's more for the experience than necessity. Angels don't need to eat, but we can enjoy it."

"Well, dig in then."

We ate in companionable silence, and I couldn't help but think how surreal it was to have an Archangel as a breakfast companion. Once we finished, I grabbed my bag and prepared to leave for school.

"Ready to face another day of chaos?" Uriel asked, hovering beside me.

"As ready as I'll ever be," I replied, heading out the door.

The walk to school was uneventful, and I arrived to find the usual hustle and bustle of students. I met up with Shaheem and Theo at the entrance, both looking a bit more relaxed than yesterday.

"Morning," I greeted them.

"Morning, Horraine," Theo replied with a smile.

"Yo," Shaheem said with a two-finger salute.

"So are we not heading to class?" Theo asked.

"No, it makes no sense at this point in time. Plus, I have to explain something. Isn't that right, Uriel?"

Uriel appeared beside me, her form still small but now floating at eye level. Theo and Shaheem's eyes widened in surprise.

"Whoa, you weren't kidding about having an Archangel as your guide," Shaheem remarked, looking at Uriel with a mix of awe and curiosity.

Theo nodded, her eyes wide. "Yeah, that's... pretty impressive."

Uriel smiled warmly. "It's a pleasure to meet you both. I hope we can work together to navigate the challenges ahead."

"So, what's the explanation?" Theo asked, turning her attention back to me.

"I'll get to that, but first." I turned my attention to the school's gate and did a silent countdown.

When I hit one, there was an explosion, blowing the gate off its hinges.

"Sigh, he doesn't change, does he?"

"Who?" Uriel asked.

"Oh, so he finally chose to spawn, huh?" Shaheem asked, realizing who I was talking about.

"Danny is here finally," Theo said.

"Now I'm curious what power he managed to get," I said.

Walking past the destroyed gate was a tall, dark-skinned teen who looked around 17-18 with short black hair and brown eyes, wearing the male school uniform and black shades. Daniel Pinnock strolled over to us.

"Hey, guys!"

"Finally chose to spawn, I see?" I asked.

"Haha, Horraine, very funny. Sup Shaheem, Shea."

"Danny."

"Sup."

"So since you're here, what power did you get?"

"I'll give a hint, Kuma—"

Daniel didn't get the chance to finish as he was suddenly surrounded by Gaster Blasters.

"Whoa, Horraine! Chill!" he exclaimed, raising his hands in mock surrender.

"How about no? You have All-Fiction. Why would I be chill?"

"Okay, okay, calm down! I promise not to erase anything important," Danny said.

"You're begging to get shot, aren't you?" I asked.

Theo shook her head with a wry smile. "Trust you to pick something so overpowered."

"Hey, go big or go home, right?" Danny replied with a grin.

As the tension eased, I dispelled the Gaster Blasters and decided it was time to explain the more pressing matter. "Alright, everyone, listen up. There's something important I need to share."

I recounted my conversation with Uriel about the upcoming monster threats and the unsealing of ancient beings. Theo and Shaheem listened intently, their expressions growing serious.

"So, we're dealing with monsters and ancient beings? Great," Theo said, sarcasm lacing her words.

"Yeah, it's going to be a rough few months," I replied.

Shaheem nodded thoughtfully. "We need to start training seriously."

"Agreed," Danny said. "But where do we start?"

Uriel floated closer, her expression serious. "You all need to focus on mastering your abilities and working together."

"Alright, let's get started then," I said.
