A few hours later,
"Alright, everyone, listen up. I want us to start our investigation." Chief Earl said as he stood up and walked over to the projector screen. "I know some of you already have ideas on where to start, but for me, this is still a mystery. So we are going to follow every lead possible, starting with the most obvious ones."
He looked around the room. "Anyone have any idea where to start?" He waited for a few moments before he continued. "Alright, I think I might have found the answer. Let's go."
They all followed him to the elevator, getting in and taking it up to the top floor. As they arrived, they all gathered in the conference room.
"Alright, so let's begin." The Chief Earl took his seat at the head of the table. "The monster's body parts were found at the scene, which means that the mystery person who killed him used some kind of power or force to do this. The police report says they couldn't make out his clothing amidst the fight. Which means that it must have been some kind of dark-colored clothing."
"Which makes you wonder?" Chloe said as she typed something into her computer.
"Who wears dark-colored clothes during the day?"
"It was night, Chief." Chloe reminded him.
"Well then," Chief Earl said as he sat up straight. "That means that whoever killed this monster is someone who is capable of hiding themselves within darkness or something similar. They could be anyone."
"So we have to find someone who is capable of doing that?"
Chief Earl nodded his head and said, "Yes."
"But I think our main goal should be apprehending whoever is responsible for the monster." One of the other female officers, Anna, replied.
Lux and Chloe both shook their heads. "No, I don't think so."
Anna tilted her head. "Why's that?"
"Because I have a guess it is Jay, but due to the fact that we don't have solid evidence, we can't bring him down."
Chief Earl laughed, "Lux, stop joking. Jay? I heard he was conducting experiments, not weapons."
"Maybe he changed his mind." Lux said as he looked out the window.
"So you think he is the one behind this?" The chief asked.
Lux nodded his head. "It's hard to say. But he is the only one who could be capable of such things."
"Well then, I would like to see your evidence."
"Well, like I said, I don't have any." Lux smiled as he turned his attention to the others in the room.
The chief stood up as he circled the table. "Lux I think it would be best if you dropped all the suspicions on Jay. If we find out he isn't the one, it could give us some trouble."
"But does that mean we should stop investigating?"
The chief looked at Lux with a serious face. "No, we will keep investigating."
*******
"Why am I here again?" Lux said as he stared at the walls of the empty room.
"We have a meeting with Chief Earl, remember?" Chloe replied.
"Yeah, well, I'm not very happy about it either."
"Why? What's wrong?" She asked.
"Well, it's just a waste of time. I don't even know what I'm here for." Lux sighed.
"Well, you'll have to wait till he gets here." Chloe said as she pulled out her phone.
"I hope it doesn't take too long; my back hurts."
Chloe looked at Lux with a confused expression.
"What? My back hurts, I told you." He repeated.
"I thought you wanted to get rid of the pain.".
"Oh, I did." He laughed. "But not like this. I've not healed fully."
Chloe laughed. "I thought so, even though it seemed too rushed."
After a couple of minutes, the door opened, and in came the chief. He was tall, had a bald head, and wore a suit. "Okay, now that we're all here, let's begin." He said this as he sat down at the head of the table. "First things first, we need to talk about our suspect. Who knows more about the monster than anyone else? Only one man. And that's none other than Jay."
"I thought you didn't want me suspecting Jay."
"Well, not in front of everyone else."
Lux nodded his head. "Oh, I see."
Everyone nodded their heads at once. "Now I'm sure you all are familiar with him by now, but here's what you need to know."
Chloe and Lux leaned forward in their seats. "My sources tell me Jay has been experimenting on people for years now. He just made it known recently under the cover of taking up his father's legacy."
Chloe was shocked. "How did you know?"
"I have my ways." He smiled.
"What kind of experiments?" Lux asked.
The chief smiled and said, "Don't worry, none of them involve murder. Just the usual he has been doing recently."
Chloe and Lux shared a look. "What sort of experiments?" Lux asked.
"Well, I'm sure you can figure that out from the information I just gave you and from the monster you fought earlier." He said.
"So what you're saying is that Jay is a dangerous individual?" Chloe asked.
Lux waved his hands in the air. "That's exactly what we've been saying."
Evelyn looked at the man on the table as Jay walked into the room, sitting down at the table in front of her.
"Is it done?"
"Yes sir. The experiment was successful, and he should be awake in a couple of days."
"Good, what is his ability?"
"Thermal Manipulation, Sir."
"And he can control it?"
"Of course, He can manipulate heat to an extent but it depends on the amount of heat he has to work with."
"Very good; I am awaiting the final testing." Jay said as he got up.
The scientist nodded. "He will be ready in two days."
"Please send the details to me when he wakes up, and I will let you know when the tests can begin." Jay replied as he walked out of the room.
