Melting You Slowly PT.2

Two days later.

"Hello, I'd like to make a report." An unknown man approached the police desk.

The officer looked at him with a raised eyebrow. "Is this about the monster incident?" He asked as he took his seat.

The man nodded his head as he sat down in front of Jay. "Yes, sir, and I want to make sure that no one else dies because of this." He said this as he placed the folder on the counter in front of the officer.

The officer opened the folder and started to read.

"It's empty," he said as he looked at the man with a confused expression.

"Keep flipping."

He looked through the documents until he reached the last page, which had a text.

JUST KIDDING.

"Hahahaha....HAHAHAHAHAHA!" The man burst into laughter as he continued. "This is just the beginning."

The police officer stood up immediately. "Sir, I think I'll have to tell you to leave immediately."

"Is it me, or is it getting hot in here?" The man smiled.

Suddenly, the officer was sweating profusely as he fell to his knees.

"What did you do to me?"

"Me?... Oh, I just turned up the heat. Ever wondered what 50 degrees feels like?" The man said this as he waved his hand.

The heat increased significantly as the officer writhed in pain on the floor before he stopped moving.

"Dead already? We'll guess I'll be writing a letter then." He said as he tore a piece of the calendar off the table and picked up a pen.

"You think that's going to help you?" Chloe walked in and grabbed a gun from her holster.

"No, but it will slow me down." She pointed the gun towards the man, who was still laughing hysterically.

"I'm afraid there are two reasons you won't be able to shoot me. One is that I have a bulletproof vest."

Chloe put the gun away and walked over to him. "I don't care." She said this as she pressed the barrel of her gun against the man's head. "Do you have one on your head too?"

"Lucky for you, there's nothing I'll gain from killing you now. If I did, you would be in the same condition as him when I turned my back."

She pulled out a pair of handcuffs as she cuffed him and pulled out her phone, calling Lux.

"We had an intruder in the station; you're good at this interrogation stuff."

The man moved his hands around as she continued on the phone. "I don't think that would be necessary. After all, we will meet again. Don't forget to read my letter too."

She pushed him, leading him down to the holding cell.

Lux walked into the holding cell as the man sat down in front of him.

"Alex Michigan. Death Row Convict. Sentenced for kidnapping and burning seven people with a flamethrower. An autopsy carried out on your latest victim by one of our colleagues shows his insides melted apart."

"Guess I went above 50°." He smirked.

"If there weren't bars between you and me, I would hit that smirk off your face."

"Well, let me tell you, Detective. Lux. If I wanted to kill you right now, I would do it: bars or no bars."

"Thermal Manipulation? Is that it?" Lux asked as he slammed his hands against the bars.

"No shit, Sherlock." The man said this as he stood up and went towards the wall, placing his hand firmly against the wall. "I would've loved to chit chat, but I'm afraid I have some planning to do."

The wall melted as he walked through to the other side. Lux took out his gun as he fired after him, but he was already out of reach.

He pulled out his phone to alert others. "All operatives, a criminal is on the loose; he goes by the name Alex Michigan."

*******

"What do you mean he's gone?" Chloe asked with a concerned expression.

"He seems to have some sort of power—thermal manipulation. He melted the wall. That's how he was able to kill the officer."

"He left a letter that he wanted us to see." Chloe brought out the letter as she handed it over to him.

"Longshire Building. Is anything happening over there tomorrow?" Lux asked.

"Yeah, I checked. A meeting of some top governors concerning a certain type of machine unveiling."

"We'll go undercover tomorrow with backup in case he is up to something." Lux said as he got out of his office. "I'll call you later."

"Wait, where are you going?" Chloe said as Lux was walking out of the parking lot.

"I'm going to get my costume for tomorrow."

Chloe looked at Lux with a puzzled expression. "Why? You know what you're going to be."

"I'm going to wear something underneath my clothes so we can get in undetected." Lux replied as he was walking out.

Chloe watched as Lux disappeared down a hallway. "Guess I'll have to get ready too."

******

Lux walked into the room wearing a black suit, a white shirt with a blue tie, and a large gold watch.

"How do I look?" he asked.

"Well, you look very handsome." Chloe said as she sat down in front of a mirror.

"You don't look bad yourself." Lux smiled as he walked into the room. "Now, let's move."

They walked into a room and waited outside until Chief Earl came in. Lux stood in front of the chief with his arms crossed as he took his place. The chief looked at Lux with a curious expression. "So what is this about?"

Lux sighed. "Well, it looks like we're both going undercover in Longshire tomorrow.

The Chief Earl looked at Lux with a surprised expression. "I guessed as much; I saw the letter. I just didn't think you would be going dressed up."

Lux shrugged his shoulders. "Because we're going to need your help with the details, we can't use our normal uniforms." He smiled.

"Got it." Chief Earl replied. "Now let's discuss your plan." He said this as he walked out of the room.

******

Chloe and Lux walked into the room where other guests were seated and took their seats.

"Oh good, you guys made it."
