Harper was making an ambitiously expansive game, a new type of game with more options than the basic hack-and-slash, where exploration and cleverness were a legitimate course of action, not an extra-hard mode. But he died before he could complete his project. Only to be reborn in that world, as a normal person. Now he is in the world that he created and realizes that he knows things no one else knows, secrets only he knows. Harper sets off to find some of these secrets, wanting to make sure that he has the power to ensure that his world remains pure, that no one will have the power to ruin it like other games. And if the only way to do that is for him to get himself enough magic and mystical artifacts that he can determine the future of the world, then so be it. It wouldn’t be conquest if it was for a good cause. Right?

Orion lets out a yawn as the last of the archers are taken out by shadow tendrils, crushed to pieces as they stand unarmed and unable to shoot at any of us. Petra has come to look at my wound, announcing it to be minor.


At the same time, we get a notification about the floor.


Notification: Dungeon floor one clear. Dungeon boss x1, Skeletal archer x10, Dread Hound x6, Skeletal warrior x15. Reward: 1,230 xp. Clear bonus: 3000xp. Total: 4,230xp.


Honestly, Im a bit disappointed. I really expected this floor to be worth more than that. I mean, granted, five times with that much xp, and Id level up. And it wouldve been worth more if it really had been just the three of us.


No need to rest, Orion says, looking around. You three. Do you want to take a full share each of what weve had and leave the dungeon now, or do you want to try the next floor?


Id like to go to the next floor, I say. This is my first time in a dungeon, and Id love to see what else there is.
